rcool217
My ELC pump has never come on since I bought my 96 Deville. I was wondering how hard it is to get a new one. My car sits a little low in the back, not a lowrider but a little lower than normal. Is it easy to replace or should I just by some cheaper aftermarket shocks and ditch the ELC? BTW I get a code RS00036 but no message on the DIC.
MAC
While it's not difficult to replace the ELC compressor it can be expensive. To my recollection, a new OEM compressor will cost about $400, while an aftermarket compressor, based on my research, will cost anywhere from $125 to about $175. Arnott, Inc. sells a compressor for $171 but it does not come with the harness for easy hookup, and does not come with a new dryer. Overall, it looks like the Arnott compressor is a viable alternative to a new OEM. However, Suncore Industries sells a remanufactured compressor for about $125.00. Suncore's remanufactured compressor is plug and pay, is warranted for one year, and comes with the dryer. I have to replace my compressor also since I'm getting the S038 trouble code (short to ground) which is caused by the pump itself shorting internally. I'm not sure which compressor I'll buy; however, at this point, I'm leaning towards Suncore's. Then again, you could always take a chance and pick one up from a salvage yard. Will I have to add air back into the system or will it just start working properly again once I put the other compressor on and hook it up? Yes, everything will just start working properly once there is a working compressor provided the ride height sensors are working correctly. Ranger
Before you start replacing that expensive compressor, check the fuses and connectors.
