alwing17
Found you guys on the Corsa Performance site,Names Al from Cleveland,Oh Just bought my first Caddy...2001 STS. Owned a 1996 Aurora for 4 years and figured it was time to graduate!I do love the car,I am a ASE and GM certified master tech for a Chevy dealer in the Cleve area,so,all of the repairs I do myself. I was going through the archives on the vibrations @ 60-70 mph,as I am experiencing these in my own car now. I have 17" wheels, have new Michelin MXV4 Energys installed, and road force balanced well below the 12#s that GM says. After searching TSB'S at home last night,I decided to perform a 4 wheel alignment and discovered my rt outer tie rod has a VERY small amount of play,so I ordered a new one.I will install it and align the car tomorrow, and let you guys know of the outcome

It can be frustrating to actually have mechanic knowledge and experience around here, but just bear with us and keep repeating things lol. JohnnyG
Welcome to the group! These vibrations are one of my favorite subjects, probably because I was able to solve mine. Remember that road force balancing can be very tricky. You have to really do it with warm tires so they don't have a "set" from sitting. This can give you false readings. I have also found that GM's 12# limit is too high and that you really need to get down into the single digits before you are happy with the results. Mind, I didn't say vibrations will be completely gone in the single digits, just "acceptable". Road force balancing solved my vibrations between 68 - 72 mph. Some also claim the front engine mount can be the cause in early (1998 - 200?) models. So the engine support system was redesigned sometime after 1999 M/Y, I think a version of the "dogbones" returned at that time, but I'm not sure which year it happened. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

alwing17
The tie rod end eliminated all of the wheel shake! I still have a little body shake @70mph Alignment done also... 0.7 LH camber,0.8RH camber...LH toe-in 0.03,RH toe-in 0.04 in. Set front toe-in at 0.07 in both sides. I am running the far edge of the rear camber...No factory adj. provided,so I will see about replacing the MXV4's with Pilot XGT H4's like I have on my Aurora...Those tires did the trick on it,and I didn't have them road forced balanced! It concerned me when I mounted and balanced the MXV4's that 2 tires took more than 2 ounces of weights to balance out...Too much weight for a Michelin to balance out in my experience. I bought the tires from Sears, and they never give us a hassle about returns on tires. Especially when we have a problem like this.
BodybyFisher
I loved the Pilot XGT H4's I had them on my 91 Seville amazing tire... I have to get in there and check my tie rods and rack out carefully, I am getting a bump induced steering skip, and lateral movement in the car. I could swear that its coming from the rear of the car, but its possible that the bump is changing the steering direction and sort of weaving the car.. very annoying. Its like my strut rod bushings are shot but they are new... I also need to pull my lower control arms and replace the bushings...
