steve6
so I gots to change my VSS, its making codes, and making my cruise not work. someone has said it is, on the left output shaft of the transmission, but i tried to have a glance from the top and its not exactly easy to point much out.... do you get at this sensor by going through the wheel well? or from the top? If someone has done this, could you please give me a better idea where it is, and how much work, or even a picture of where it is, if anyone has one, would be appreciated. this is for a 99 seville sts thanks -steve
JimD
It is located on top of the transaxle housing on the RH outboard end. Access through the wheel well. I would exercise the connector a few times to wipe the contacts before I replaced the sensor. What codes are you seeing|? Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Cadillac Jim
Actually changing the VSS requires partial disassembly of the transaxle. They rarely go bad. I wouldn't assume that the sensor itself is the cause because wiring and connectors are usally the cause of intermittent problems. I've found that blowing coolant out the surge tank overflow hose can cause the VSS to be intermittent for a few days. You might check your anti-freeze to make sure that it's at least 50% (protection to -34 F), and that it's not overfilled. Someone topping it off with water can cause both problems. You can reach the VSS by turning the steering all the way to the left, then reaching up behind the front wheel on the passenger side from the ground. You should be able to see it and its connnector with a flashlight. Moving the connector and making sure that it's fully on should clear up the intermittent. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Yes, in 1998 the Seville went from the K platform to the A platform. That's why I made it clear that I was using the 1997 FSM. However, I believe that the transaxle is still the same. No, the Seville went to the "G" platform in 1998. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
