BostonETC97
I spent the day detailng (claybar, zaino, leather treatment, carpet shampooing, engine detail, undercarriage wash...) the Eldorado, it came out nice! I noticed the driver's seat has a nice patina to the leather (which looks great!), while the right seat still looks factory-new. I just wondered if anybody ever tried to swap the left for the right to "rotate" the seats. I love the look of the "well used" leather, but it's starting to stand out in comparison to the other seats. I just can't imagine GM making a specific "left and right" seat. My guess is that the swiches and trimplates can be exchanged, but I figured I'd atleast ask before I try! Thanks for the help! -Scott
JasonA
I imagine the cushions themselves could be swapped, but I don't know how. Knowing me, I'd screw it up. My car has the same problem. The driver's seat is moderately worn. No cracks or anything, but much of the leather has been worn "slick". The back seat is factory fresh...almost nobody ever rides in the back. The passenger front seat is about half-way between, in terms of wear. What I notice most is the "flattening" of the cushion. When I sit in the passenger seat, it feels like I'm sitting on a pillow of air. The cushion on that side is just much less "worn in". epricedright
My driver's seat could sure use some new cushion...flat as a pancake! Anyone hear of anyone replacing just the cushions?
BostonETC97
After spending some time looking under them, they look the same. But now I'm thinking it'll look goofy having the "worn" seat on the right. I have the same issue with the padding... the right seat is MUCH more comfortable, as the foam hasn't been flattened as much. I'd like to think I have a "small" rear-end, but my seat probably thinks otherwise. I know any good upholstory shop can "re-stuff" a seat, so I'm guessing that's always an option. As far as the leather goes, maybe I should try to re-dye the seat. Either way it's going to look like "well worn" leather, but alteast the color will be restored. If the passenger seat had the same patina as the driver's, I'd be happy. Maybe I need to start dating heavier girls, that'll wear down the right seat in no time.... I do believe you can buy the seat cushion bottoms from the Stealership - perhaps from one of the online companies. Taking off the covers shouldn't be a big deal, and might be an inexpensive maintenance thing that woudl be well worthwhile. Anybody got any knowledge of this??? Ranger
When I had my '02 SLS in for warranty work on the right seat heater, I talked to the mechanic how did it (3 times). IHe said it only took 4 bolts to have the seat cushion out. After that it should not be too have to remove the leather and restuff it. I think I remember some one posting a "HowTo" for the heater element with pictures. That should pretty well cover it if you can find it. I don't think you want to swap seats as the controls will then be on the inside as opposed to the outside of the seat.

I will ask my cousin, he used to own a shop where they reupholstered seats and replaced convertible tops. I forgt about him. If he doesn't know, no one does. I'll need to find some cushion, that good stuff!
Poobah
The driver's seat cushion in my '94 Eldorado was pretty badly squashed down (especially on the outboard side) and the upper front leather panel (the one under my knees) was badly cracked. I had the cushion rebuilt a couple of years ago by an upholstery shop that does warranty work for my local Cadillac dealer. They re-worked the springs, added new stuffing and replaced the leather panel all for about $250. The new leather matched pretty well except for the lack of patina. He told me that squashed cushions are quite common in those cars. I'm sure you could ask around and find a shop that does Cadillac warranty work in your area. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.

WarrenJ
Sometimes this forum can be a pain . . . . Now tomorrow morning, for the first time, I've gotta go out and plant myself in the passenger seat and check it for butt-contour. Sheesh! I've got better things to do ya know . . . .
