Poobah
My 2000 Deville came with two Remote Keyless Entry transmitters. Both are sometimes very slow to open the doors. I put new batteries in both of them but that didn't help much. Sometimes, I have to push the unlock button two or three times before it works. Sometimes, if I hold the unlock button down for a second or more, it will work. This is particularly true when unlocking the passenger doors. It makes me nervous about leaving the keys in the car and taking only the RKE! The door locking and trunk opening functions work perfectly. Do these things just go bad after a while? Anybody know how much new ones are? Thanks in advance. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
JimD
A long shot that this would happen to both remotes at the same time, but anything is possible. Remotes live in an environment that is not surgically clean (pockets & purses). Take the remote completely apart and clean the printed circuit board contact areas under the rubber buttons. Also clean the contact area on the rubber button being careful to not remove the carbon that is supposed to be there. It's like chicken soup for remotes. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. Ranger
Also check the battery hold down solder joints. I've resoldered the one on my wifes 3 times already.
