Gremlins in the trunk.

I have a 99 STS. just recently on arriving at my car in a mall parking lot, I found my trunk open.

My first thought was I must have accidently pressed the trunk release button on the remote.

I have since found it now opens by itself about every 70 seconds. I had to remove the trunk release relay under the rear seat fuse block.

Very strange!! Even with the trunk open you could hear the solenoid click about every minute.

Anybody have the same problem? If so did you find out what the problem was.

Thanks RW

Your car has on-board diagnostics, generation II (OBD II). It saves codes for the mechanic when any problem is detected. You need to get these codes. Click here to see how you can pull the codes. There are two kinds of codes, current and history. Click here to see how to interpret them if you like. Post the codes here. I expect that you will find something like

PZM Bnnnn

possibly as a current code, where the nnnn are four digits following a single letter (B in this example). The PZM is what GM calls the body control module, which controls the trunk opening relay; not all the codes will have PZM in front. You will likely find several codes as history codes; your car takes notes on what is happening all the time and not all of them indicate a problem. One of these codes will likely tell us what the problem is. So, write all of them down and post them here.
