Jeff
OK- I replaced the relay, tried to spin it over. It turned over and I got the SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM message again, only this time I got a code. PCM P0231. I looked in my list and it said FUEL SYSTEM CIRCUIT LOW. Turns out my brand new battery was dead. That was the first time I tried to crank the car with it. If you remember my other posts, I was wondering why the fuel pump would quit when I put the new battery on... Can a low battery cause a P0231? AND- if my fuel pump was not getting power, would the gauge work? My gauge would come up whenever I turned the key on... just wondering. I charged the battery last night and I won't be able to try it again untill after work. Is idiot spelled with two t's ot three?
JimD
P0231 - Fuel Pump Feedback Circuit Low Voltage Yes, I can see low battery voltage triggering this code (along with several other codes). Other than that, I will leave it to someone with the wiring diagram for your model/year. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! And do not call yourself an idiot, As a matter of fact, all the people from Texas I have met (not on TV ) were very nice and intelligent ones. Ranger
This is getting off topic , but I have to add that I have never seen so many beautiful women concentrated in one place. Must be something in the water. Hang in there, you'll get this figured out. I recall the Guru once said that the fuel pump has a pretty heavy current draw, so I would suspect that a weak battery would cause that message. There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises
rek
Slightly off the main topic but I had a "Wacky" fuel gage at one time. The dealer replaced the fuel pump thinking it was a fuel/ level/ sender problem. That wasn't the problem! A new Body Control Module was the "Fix". It took care of the "Wacky" temperature gage as well! Thanks to GMPP, at the time, my wallet didn't feel a thing. rek

Oldgamer
The best way to find the problem is to follow factory service manual for this code. I beleive that battery is fine, just got a bit low after a lot of startings. Problem can be with relay or wirings.
Jeff
Well, the Texan is back. Thanks for the encouragement. Would you believe I married one those beautiful Texas gals (that's girls for the non-Texans) I replaced the fuel pump relay and gave the NEW battery a full charge. I turned the key on but didn't hear the pump do anything so I tried to turn it over and rrr...rrr...rrr (that's a weak battery trying to turn a motor over) I charged it again and I left the charger on the battery so I could see the meter when I turned the key on, and as soon as I turn the ignition on- without even turning the motor over it immediately sucks the battery down to about 25%!! I hit the key and BAM- it drains the battery! Bad cables... ??
Cadillac Jim
Turning the key on probably turns on the high beams at 75% voltage; that's the daytime running lights. If that pulls your battery down 25% and hitting the starter kills it, then either there is a bad connection or a dead cell. The prevailing ethnicity in Texas is German. There is very strong representation by Scotch-Irish and, of course, Latino. Look at the immigration patterns within the US in the 1830 to 1860 time frame to see where the oldest families came from. Then, between 1865 and 1920, a lot of Germans emigrated to Texas through Houston. There were a lot of land grants in West Texas in the Midland-Odessa area, and you can draw a line between Houston and Midland-Odessa and find lots of German people living within 50 miles of that line. When the wagon broke down or the supplies ran out, people stopped and settled. In many cases, English is not spoken in small to middle-sized towns near that line. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
