I just got my Cadillac back from the mechanic and they were supposed to fix the IPC but never did, anyways I get the car back and nothing works I don't have horn, power door locks, power seats, power trunk and fuel door all don't work. Also my battery was bubbling over and when ever an electrical load is put on the car it dies then it wont start the starter won't even click over. I am just really pissed right now and am trying to think of what to do I know they replaced the alternator but supposedly that is all that they did.

What kind of alternator? Is it OEM?

The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

Sombody with a 1992 (A platoform) FSM -- figure out which circuit has the horn, power door locks, power seats, power trunk and fuel door on it. With any luck, the power distribution diagram will get us down to one connector or fuse.

The regulator is usually built into the alternator these days. Cooking your battery is a sure sign. What does your computer display say about the battery voltage when the engine is running at 1,500 rpm?

Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.

The voltage stays right around 13.5 volts to 13.8 like it should, I think the battery problem was because the negative cable was backing out and causing arcs this was also causing the car to die and not start. They told me that the car started doing this when they first got it, I have never experienced these problems before and I don't see how the IPC having a common failure would cause this.

It is an AC Delco replacement.

13.5 volts is on the low side. Most charge between around 14.1-3 volts or so.

When you say by most do you mean Cadillacs or all cars cuz according to Chrysler the normal voltage to be read across the battery during vehicle operation in 13.6 to 13.8 volts spikes up to 14.4 were ok.

13.5 to 13.8 in the warmer months seems high even, once I am started and driving for a bit, I am at 13.1 to 13.3. I think you are ok. Immediatly after starting you will get a high charging rate than it will drop.. You will see higher charging rates in the cold weather. You said IPC, do you mean the Instrument Cluster? If you need to have your instrument cluster rebuilt or fixed try Model Electronics they do repairs for GM dealers: http://modelelectronicsinc.com/home.htm

I have used them a lot, you might try calling them.

Yea I have found a bunch of places on the internet that repair the instrument cluster for the cadillacs. Turns out the driver side power seat moter shorted to ground and blew up the circuit breaker, so now I am looking to replace the power seat track assembly because the seat is stuck in an uncomfortable position.
