lost1
i just bought my 99 sts two months ago and it had a bad encounter with a deer last thursday. I took it down to my local dealership and had an estimate done. it came up to 3291.07, 1897.33 in parts alone. i know my insurance company doesn't want to pay for OEM parts, and i Have a bad feeling that if i want the job done right that I am going to have to come up with the rest of the money out of my pocket. does anyone know where I can find OEM parts for a good price? I've tried WWW.gmpartsdirect.com and it did give me some savings, but not that much after i figured in shipping and handling.
Bruce Nunnally
I suggest you also email your parts list to gmotors.com for a quote. You should check with local body shops as well. My dealership has an associated body shop, but I suppose lots of dealers use local body shops. Skip the dealer interface and save their markup. MAC
I would apply the insurance towards OEM parts. Aftermarket body parts can be of poor quality metal and/or not fit like OEM parts. If the STS can be fixed to look like the original, and you really want to keep it, then supplementing insurance proceeds, if possible, probably would be the way to go. jhall
You're going to have to press them to use OEM parts. It may take some pressing on your part, but make them understand that you want the car repaired with OEM items. Sometimes you need to do some leg work to get prices. Shop a couple of dealerships to see what comes up. On the other hand, the after-market parts can be made to fit just as well if the shop knows what it's doing. With a good shop it's very hard to tell the difference. I have a '97 Deville that was recently turned into an "old car" by a large buck that wanted to race me on a back road late one night. He nailed the LF fender just behind the wheel and I couldn't open the driver door when I got home that night. Pulled the fender out by hand the next day(came out pretty good - dent did not crease the metal), but you can still see a deviation when you look at the fender from an angle. Good luck. GreenMachine
start calling all the local junk yards, a scrap part is just as good and cheaper (will probibly actually have some left over...maybe) than the aftermarkets, and is OEM. Body shop repaints the parts and your ready to go. Cadillac Jim
Ask your insurance company to recommend two or three body shops in your area and pick one that will work with you on parts. Your insurance company should be able to work with you and a body shop that you both agree on. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. The Fred
Get the parts off of another similar automobile.. find one that was totalled from the EDIT end and maybe buy the whole thing. Seven years of aging makes the paint fade a litte- you may not notice it, but parts from the same color and age automobile I think look better and I've seen a few rebuilders in my day too. Your stupid insurance company had better pay to have it done right anyway.. tell them you want it fixed right, you pay your deductable and make them fix it right. If you want brand new OEM parts that is what you had ought to have. Or at least make them pay for that and then take your check and go and do it the way I said. weephee
Go to car-part.com. I have had nothing but good luck with this site and the pricing goes from dead cheap to very expensive. This should satisfy all your car part needs.
