plug wires

Last year I replaced plugs and wires on my 96 Deville. The plugs were original and I checked the gap .80. I installed the new ones at .50. I used the good plugs but opted for the 59.00 wires. Ever since installed, the car runs alright without air conditioner or fan for heater. As soon as I crank up fan it seems to drive a little rough. I noticed the wires are almost touching fan motor. I may have changed plug wire pattern from coils somewhat also. The after market wires were longer.

Does anyone know how to easily get the egr off now that the engine has been upgraded with steel fuel rail. Iwill clean that again if I can get it off. I tried the other day and it looks as if you need to loosen the rail. All ideas appreciated

Also there is a fliter, looks like fuel under front passenger side head light area in front of wheel . Does the car have two filters. When the pump went they did not change that one, nor did they even know about it. Thanks

General concensus is to use only A/C Delco wires to avoid problems. Keep the wires away from the blower motor. I am surprised that you haven't fried it yet.

Fuel rail does have to be removed or at least loosened to get the EGR off.

Not sure what filter you are seeing. Some years have a P/S fluid filter so I heard. Perhaps that is what you saw.

You need to disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel lines, remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and lift the fuel rail up to clear the EGR valve.

The filter in front of the wheel is for the power steering fluid.

If you have cleaned the EGR passages already, I doubt that they would be clogged again.

Arrange and tie back the plug wires, to keep them clear of the fan motor area.

As you seem to experience the problem under electrical load, check the battery connections, by removing and cleaning both terminals, and then the engine grounds from the negative terminal.

I have a 96 Deville. Are you getting a check engine light? A bad enough misfire will set a P0300, P0301 code. Check your codes....

1) if you are using cheap wires, I would advise that you go OEM, improper shielding allows high EMF emissions that can mess up electronics and cause inter-cylinder misfiring. Part of the reason you were getting big plug gaps was because the platinum pads came off....

2) keep the wires away from the HVAC fan or you will be replacing your fan soon, not easy and not cheap

3) the wires NEED to be installed in the proper sequence between the coils and plugs, recheck

4) yes, I got my EGR off by removing/popping up the fuel rail, be gentle, if you need the procedure ask for it, its not hard.

5) the filter you are seeing under the RF headlight area is for the power steering pump as Ranger mentioned.

You posted this thread twice, ask Bruce to erase the other one or combine them
