The Fred
Smells like gasoline in the cabin there and under the hood.. When I take off the gas cap it lets off more pressure than I've ever heard before.... Been real hot out lately, Any ideas? FPR? How do you clean the FPR? No leaks on the ground, Fuel filter area doesn't smell of gasoline MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. Ed Hall
You might want to carry along a fire extinguisher or a carton full of baking soda just in case.
BodybyFisher
Fumes are captured in the charcoal canister, its located under the RF fender. Its possible that you are having a problem with this system. Also check the gas cap.. Cadillac Jim
The pressure in hot weather is easy. Gasoline contains a certain amount of butane. In hot weather, fuel with a high butane content will have a high vapor pressure. You can substute "propane" for "butane" and repeat. Buy gas from a different station and see if the gas tank pressurization stays high. This shouldn't cause the smell. That sounds like a gas leak of some kind. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. The Fred
I've temporarily solved the problem.. The gas cap on this automobile is one of those where you can relieve pressure before actually opening it so I've got it to where it lets pressure off of there Will look at it tomorrow MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. thu
I had the same problem in my 1993 Deville. The problem turned out to be the vacuum line that controls the relief valve of the gas tank. The vacuum opens the valve to allow air into the tank as the gas is used up. It melted - it got too close to the exahust pipe, putting a hole in it. So, I think what happened is that vapors from the tank escaped from the hole, entering the cabin. The mechanic replaced it for about $5 as other work was being done to the car - it was already up on the lift and was easy to get to. Is the air rushing out or rushing in when you open the cap? It may be that the vacuum relief line is damaged so that air cannot enter into the tank as the level of gasoline goes down. So, when you open the cap, air may be going INTO the tank and not rushing OUT of the tank. You may have a little round, spring-loaded door inside the fuel filler neck where the fuel nozzle is inserted. Does that little door chatter and rattle when you remove the cap? You may have to rapidly and completely remove the gas cap to catch this in action. If so, then air is rushing into the tank, not out. I don't think it chatters/rattles when air rushes out, only when it rushes in. Do you hear the gas tank pop when you open the cap? If so, that's the tank returning to its normal shape after being collapsed from fuel withdrawal. 2003 Seville STS 43k miles with the Bose Sound, Navigation System, HID Headlamps, and MagneRide 1993 DeVille. The Fred
I didn't hear anything like that but that sure is an interesting thought.. I will probably be able to find the location of that line in the service manual (could find it myself but that way I can trace it all the way back a little easier) Thank you MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one.
