The Fred
I don't know how soon this can happen but I believe I know exactly what I want now, I want a 1991 Seville with upgraded handling components and brakes and: A Northstar Is there any way to make the Northstar give a quick fast throttle response like the 4.5 does? I've owned several 4.5 and 4.9 Cads in my day and I love the throttle response in the 4.5 cars - I only wish they were not so darned under powered. Alternatively, how much horsepower can you get out of the 4.9 without making it unhappy and breakable? MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. GreenMachine
They key with the northstar since it all electronically controlled, is to follow the "Overdrive intructions". The manual says when below 35 (it might be 40) press the gas halfway for spirited driving (EI it will hold the shifts or drop a shift and you goooo). Above 35/40 press the gas all the way down. When I started following that over all the time full pedal it didn't "add" extra gas and kept it lean while still giveing it the power to burn rubber The Green's Machines 1998 Deville - high mileage, keeps on going, custom cat-back exhaust 2003 Seville - stock low mileage goodness! 2004 Grand Prix GTP CompG - Smaller supercharger pulley, Ported Exhaust Manifolds, Dyno tune, etc 1998 Firebird Formula - 408 LQ9 Stroker motor swap and all sorts of go fast stuff
Cadillac Jim
The simplest way to go would be to put a VIN "Y" Northstar in the 4.9. If you want more throttle response, you could put the 3.71 gears in it to replace the higher final ratio in the VIN "Y" transaxle. Alternatively, you could get a VIN "9" engine and transaxle and put a VIN "Y" intake cam in it. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. There is a sweet spot just shy of half way when you're under 35mph The Northy seems to perform real well once you have a feel for driving it Putting a NS into a 91 Seville would be more trouble than its worth, probably, near impossible. It'd be worth it to me.. I always have wanted one and the Allante is too darned ugly I was thinking that I could get a good low mile 1991 Seville for $5000 and a donor car for another $5000 and there would be a thousand to ten thousand in misc this misc that PS: How much does the 1991 Seville weigh compared along side of the Northstar cars? About 3400 vs 4600 - right? What does the NS weigh? What does the 4.9 weigh? MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. JasonA
My '97 Seville has a curb weight of about 3800 pounds. 4600 is way too high -- even for a DeVille I think. I understand the Northstar powertrain, including the transmission, is about 100 pounds heavier than the 4.9L powertrain. But the Northstar's transmission (4T80-E) is a much heavier-duty unit than what comes with the 4.9L (4T65-E I believe). If you want Northstar throttle response, get a VIN Y car (SLS, Eldorado, etc). More hp and more torque than the VIN 9 cars below 5000 rpm. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" Bruce Nunnally
The original Dagmar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagmar Dagmar (November 29, 1921 – October 9, 2001) was a buxom television personality. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia, United States, as Virginia Ruth Egnor . In the 1940s, she became a fashion photographer's model and later entered show business. She developed a very successful "dumb blonde" act, and appeared on such shows as Milton Berle's Texaco Star Theater, Broadway Open House, Dagmar's Canteen, and Hollywood Squares. She was married three times, to Angelo Lewis, Danny Dayton and Richard Hinds. She died at age 79. She is most famous for giving her stage name to the Dagmar bumper, a chrome bullet-point bulge on the front bumpers of Cadillacs, Buicks and Lincolns built during the 1950s. The Fred
There are some crazy commercials I keep seeing on TV Land when I am watching my Sitcoms, With some lady named Dagmar I will be happy enough and just fine with a couple housemaids One Southern and one Asian I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is a "housemaid"? A servant/slave of some sort? A housemaid is like a wife but she is not a wife. She does everything a good wife would do but she does NOT sleep with you at night or have any right or say in anything at all. It's not like having a slave - you do not beat on your housegirls.. at least, I won't. I want them smiling and beaming when I walk in - not running for cover.
