Bruce Nunnally
The role of the Deville in the Cadillac line traditionally has been to be the best high-luxury car. It also ranged as the entry level model some years, split into separate models in some years (DHS/DTS). But the Deville has generally offered 5 or 6 passenger comfort and performance. Could it be that this year's DTS, with only a exterior freshening as it waits for a very long 2009/2010 chassis update, is not the best luxury model Cadillac makes? With the new hand-stitched leather interior for 2007, is the SRX the best high-luxury Cadillac now? If you compare the SRX V8 to the DTS on the http://www.cadillac.com site: http://www.cadillac.com/comparator/addVehi...delTrimID=17277 Room: Tie + most head room: SRX 40.3 DTS 38.3 inches + most front/rear hiproom (width): tie DTS 57.3/55.7 SRX 56.3/56.3 inches + most front/rear Leg Room : DTS 42.5/42 SRX 42.1/41 inches + most Shoulder Room: DTS 60/59.2 SRX 58.7/57.6 inches + Cargo volume: SRX 32.4 DTS 18.8 cubic feet + Max seating: SRX (7 to 6) Convenience: Tie + Most features shared. + Rear seat fan controls: DTS + Rear seat audio controls: SRX Powertrain: SRX + SRX: 320hp RWD or AWD; DTS 275-291hp FWD + Transmission: SRX 5-speed auto; DTS 4-speed auto + economy: DTS 17/24 vs SRX8 15/21 + Weight: DTS 4009 SRX8 4302 lbs + towing capacity: SRX Price: Tie + MSRP: DTS $41K and up; SRX8 $44K Price is tricky, as the DTS starts at $41 but goes up quickly with the Lux II or Performance packages. A SRX v6 is more like the base DTS, and the SRX8 performance is more like the Performance DTS. I think one can argue that the SRX can "out-Deville" a DTS in features, if you don't mind the whole cross-over vehicle shape/configuration. Obviously if you only want a sedan, the Deville is still the luxury sedan of choice. But the SRX appears to be a better package overall. Need to go in the snow? SRX is available in All-wheel drive as well. Bruce 2016 Cadillac ATS-V gray/black Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube
GreenMachine
Intresting take on it but I think your last sentance summed things up, ones a small SUV and ones a big sedan. Usually people don't shop cross market like that. Also the DTS at the local dealer had some very nice leather and such. With all that said the auto mags have been loving the SRX, people don't seem to mention that cadillac is the clear winner in that segment in the magazines. Its really a big and tall STS The deville is geared toward the less performance minded, but still want a big V8 that can give some WOT appeal, the SRX seems to fill the space of the guy/gal who needs room to move lots of stuff and still wants to have RWD fun or for the female, AWD security The DTS is front wheel drive, (good for winter by the way, much easier to "steer and gas" your way out of trouble and whip around in the tail). I would still pick an STS over both...but then again I want RWD and a speedy sedan. Now I just have to wait a few years for those current STS to go down in price so I can afford them (I'm sure since the body is being "lifened up" soon again they original new models will plumet in price...I hope). JasonA
I'd wager that the actual driving experience will differ GREATLY between the two. Driving position, ride, etc. The two vehicles really can't even be compared in my mind. Once you add all the "value added" features of the SRX to make it eclipse the DTS, you've likely also ran the price into the $50s....while returning poorer fuel economy. The SRX is a really nice station wagon (and I love station wagons). Just like the Chrysler Pacifica. Just like the new Mercedes R-class. Just like the Acura MDX...and most other vehicles they term "crossovers" and "sports activity vehicles" and "sports tourers" today. They only do that because they couldn't sell them if they called them what they really are -- station wagons. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" GreenMachine
yeah I always looked at them as bigger, taller, station wagons. But then again benz makes a true station wagon that really doesn't look anything like these guys. They are basically just small SUVs They are an SUV (that is if I evern had to get an esv and an Esclade EXT was out of the picture) I would purchase because it has the utility of and SUV, but the agility of the new model STS.
