The Fred
Well folks I don't have a SM yet so if you could tell me what needs to be done I'd appreciate it.. I'm going to try and make my brother and law Jumbo replace it for a case of beer, But it aint easy to make him do anything, I darn sure hate to spend $800 at the shop. I told the automobile I says to her, look, of course I will fix your ailment but this aint no holiday inn, kid! MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. Cadillac Jim
I've seen references to old threads here on compressor replacement. If you don't find one, give me a holler and I'll read back the 1997 service manual on compressor replacement. It's about three pages. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. The Fred
Well folks I am hoping to install everything today but I am a little confused about one thing.. It says I have to flush the system before installing the compressor. Well, after I take the old one out, I can't drive the car anywhere to have it flushed... The parts store sells bottles of flush solvent or what ever it is but I don't know how you are supposed to get it through the system. How would I use an air compressor to do that? Pour the stuff in and blow air through? MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. MerryChristmas

KHE
What/Who says to flush the system? If there is not any debris in the orifice tube, there is no need to flush the system. But I guess I will work it out with the shop These guys are pretty good MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. epricedright
Fred, are you sure you want to replace the compressor, even though you're selling it? You may not recoup the expense when you sell it. Food for thought is all. How much did it run you?
The Fred
Fred, are you sure you want to replace the compressor, even though you're selling it? You may not recoup the expense when you sell it. Food for thought is all. How much did it run you? It was $300 worth of parts that is all it was, The guy is installing it for $150 Thanks for the concern but I really don't care if I even lose money I want the next guy to have air conditioning. I don't want some poor bastad to buy it and sweat his *smurf* off. It was my mistake for not knowing the compressor was bad. Capitalism is beautiful because it rewards a man with what he deserves. Uh, for the record I did not type "*smurf*" in.. MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. joeb
did you replace the compressor yet? i was just wondering what the failure "mode" was? a leaky shaft seal on the compressor or worn reed valves? since you are changing the compressor that must mean you have figured out what is wrong with the system. did you loose you charge or not? The Fred
The compressor is gone due to the overcharging and running it that way.. the idiot who sold it to me did that I just hope it doesn't need a condenser as alot of cads do *sigh* MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one.
