Adam Szeluga is 27 years old, looks like Elvis and is obsessed with antique Cadillacs. He has collected and sold 27 of them since he was 18. His apartment is decorated with nearly 400 pieces of Cadillac memorabilia. His ideal day involves cruising in his 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D’elegance and blasting Elvis’ “Suspicious Minds” on its tape player. Szeluga, of Rochester, may have been born in the wrong era. But he fit right in on Sunday afternoon at the 26th annual Cadillac-LaSalle Antique Auto Show at Keyser Cadillac in Williamsville. The 60 other Cadillac enthusiasts, mostly WNY Region Cadillac-LaSalle Club members, are at least twice his age. The third annual "Gathering of the Land Yachts" filled the Flats with chrome and fins on Sunday. Classic Cadillac and LaSalle owners brought more than 75 vintage vehicles to Nautica for the public to enjoy. Members of the Cadillac and LaSalle Club, Inc of the Western Reserve Region provided judges who chose the best car from each decade, and visitors to the show cast votes for the "People's Choice" Award. The 8/6/4 system, by Eaton, worked and is a technology back in use today. The base 368 v8 engine was quite sound if underpowered by today's standard. My Mom had and enjoyed a Cimmarron, which by the final V6 iteration was a nice economy Cadillac. Overall I agree however that issues with the diesel followed by issues with the replacement HT4100 and poor choices in Cadillac Customer service were deadly for the brand's image. The HT4100 evolved into the 4.5l and 4.9l v8s which are nice, reliable engines. -
Up for sale is a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in excellent cosmetic and mechanical shape with 80k miles. 1 of around 8000 made in the year of Cadillac's 70th Anniversary. This Cadillac received an extensive restoration in 2011 that has brought the car back to a high level II condition. This Convertible has been a pampered all its life, clean all over, garaged kept, adult owned, well serviced, high octane fuel always used, non-smoker, no accidents, no rust, very little ware and drives out perfect. The 1948 and 1949 Cadillacs defined high-tech for their day. In those two years, the crest and wreath introduced styling and engineering innovations that would go on to influence the American auto industry for decades. They featured big engines, fender skirts and little touches like separate air conditioning and radio controls for the rear of the vehicle. The driver sat on leather while the passenger seats were a broadcloth stretched over incredibly comfortable seats, Smith said. Its hard to get the HOT ROD staff to agree on anything, let alone being unanimous in their selection of Mike Podacas 51 Cadillac as the recipient of a feature. The staff was tasked to pick a car from the hundreds of entrants jammed around the Fairplex in Pomona, California, at the HOT ROD Homecoming celebrating the magazines 65th anniversary last year. What makes this an even odder choice is that the Cad falls into the custom-car category, which doesnt get a lot of love from HOT ROD. This is almost exactly what I am looking for after I get the garage space: There are some aspects that need freshening, but this is a nice driver at a reasonable price and is my new benchmark for comparison. My specific criticism here is the chrome seems ready for freshening. I would also like to see some red trim, alternating red and white panels, or candy-stripe instead of the plain white seat treatment, but at least the seats and interior seem to be similar to stock. The exhaust would have to be redone, but may be true dual? No way to tell the exact condition without careful inspection. I appreciate the inclusion of video. This is a bit of a problem: The 68 apparently had the emblem on the nose but not a hood ornament? The cars with both seem redundant to me, so one or the other seems better.
