  1. After 5 years of ownership, and some pretty rough service (the car sits for 6 months at a time) my battery bit the dust. Just refused to hold a charge. I thought I'd pull the back seat and check the connections but found it nearly impossible to do, probably since it's never been out before. After struggling with it for a bit, I came upon a solution to help me push in on the bottom edge of the back seat. I moved the front seats all the way forward, and made a short piece of 2X4 just long enough to reach from the lower lip of the rear seat to the hard plastic "base" of the front seats. I wrapped the 2X4 in a terry towel to help protect the leather, then started moving the front seats back. This helped me push in on the rear seat lower lip just enough to get the catches released and the seat removed. Take it slow so as not to damage the seat motors, as the motors were just about to stall, but it worked like a charm. $125.00 for a new battery and a few hours later, it's ready for the road again! (At least I hope it is, time will tell!)
  2. When I check the digital readout on my '98 DeVille, I don't know whether the battery is getting, say, a 13.8 volt charge...or 13.8 volts is the demand being made of the system at that moment. Or is it what the battery has available at that moment? Duh... Anyone know which it is? Would be helpful to know. Thanks.
  3. So I've got two problems, mainly. I have a 1993 Sixty Special. There is a draw on the battery when the car is not running. I had the Alternater and battery tested (It is only a year old) and both are fine. I have been disconnecting the battery when not driving, and it has not died so far. The car will need a boost if I do not drive it or run the engine every 12-24 hours. This seems to be getting worse, which would indicate my battery is taking a beating for all the boosts I've given it. So, here's what I've done. I pulled the fuse for Air Suspension, suspecting it was draining my battery due to a leak in the line somewhere, and running more than it should. This did not fix my problem I pulled the fuse for the door lock relays, and the two front seat adjusters. I considered this feature kind of optional, and was willing to see if that system had a power draw. It did not fix the problem. Connected a volt meter to the positive cable and positive terminal to get the meter to read that I had a draw of 12.3 volts or so. Started pulling all fuses to see if that would go away, it did not. Suspecting I did something wrong, I did the same with the negative cable and negative post to much the same effect, the draw of around 12.3 volts remained the same. Did I test the battery draw wrong? I also noticed my security light blinks when opening 3 of my 4 doors. The passenger door it does not blink. I find this odd, and suspect it could be part of my problem. Now, having said all that, yesterday my Radio will not turn on any more. I pulled out my iPod dock from the front seat cigerette lighter, and it left behind a little conductive piece of metal. When I tried fishing it out, it sparked all over the place at me. When I finally got it out, my radio would not turn on. The car beeps at me funny when I open the doors with the keys in it, and the security light doesn't come on when I open the doors now. I tried swapping the radio fuse (#4 I believe, 10Amp) with the spare #2 10 Amp, and nothing has changed. It seemed to me that when the radio didn't come on I just blew a fuse. Any help is appreciated guys. I plan on taking the car into a mechanic as I know one I trust, and I just want to know the source of the problems before I bring it into him to fix it.
  4. I have a 2003 cadillac deville dts battery not charging came on display drove car for 3 days thinking it would correct itself, Dash light come and go randomly, PCM? Car finally died 3 days later after dash lights started dancing and dash went black/dead. Took car to autozone they said it was a bad battery i knew it was the alternator bought a new battery and an alternator from o'rileys. Changed alternator car is running good. Heres the thing drl's not on/working when they used to automatically come on any other time. Anytime i turn my lights, turn signals or ac on car stalls and dies. Brake lights function normally. only issue is when i try those 3 features the car dies. So i cant drive at night only daytime. I have not made any changes that require power to the car. Only mods i have done are replace door speaker(not component) and ran the blown rear DVC sub lines to 2 SVC 10' pyle subs. No after market deck or amp. ANy help is appreciated. There have been no major issues with the car and it has 135k on it I recently did a round trip to new orleans. Ryan
  5. Good morning caddy enthusiats. I bring to you all an issue I ran into 15 minutes ago on my way to work. Anyway, I go out to my 95 concours this morning and when I turn the key over to start it, it wont give anything, not a click, no turning over, nothing. The lights, buttons, antenna and dash display still function so I doubt it's a battery issue. This isn't the first time this has happened (it started mid last week) but I've always gotten it to start usually after about the 3rd time I turn the key over to start it. It would take about 5-6 seconds of me holding the key to get it to start but it did it. I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Just looking for some advice and insight plz. Thanx folks
  6. Just bought a 97 Deville. Really great car. 42,000 miles, one owner. Clean history, car always serviced by Cadillac. Also have a couple of older Cadillacs. 76 Seville, 78 Eldorado and 87 Coupe Deville. Member of Cadillac Lasalle Club, but I think with the newer car, this might be the place for advice. This car is a different animal. Took me 10 minutes to get the air filter box apart. With the 70’s cars can do it in the dark with my eyes closed. The previous owners said that the car does not keep a charge. After a few days of standing the battery is dead. They tested the battery and alternator (so they say), and everything turned out fine. The lights seem to dim slightly when driving at night, not applying any throttle. Also when I apply the brakes I can see a SLIGHT dimming of the lights. Just a tad dimming, then the lights brighten again. The display reads above 13, up to 14 or so volts while accelerating. No codes. Even under idle the display reads around 13 volts. I just bought a new battery, and it does the same thing. I took the old battery in, and they said it looks fine, but only 26% charged. I drove around the whole weekend, probably 300 miles !!!! If the alternator is bad, would the display still read over 13 volts? Anything else it could be? The belt / and / or pulleys also seem to be squeaking. Just ordered a new belt and idler pulley. Belt actually looks fine. If still squeaking will replace tensioner too. What is the torque specs for the pulleys? (will get factory manual soon). I replaced the alternators on my other cars, easy as can be. Two bolts and thats it. With this one I really want to be sure its the alternator before I have to go in there. Dont even know where to start. On a side note. The Dex Cool looked great. Oil life was good, only thing is the air filter was FILTHY. !! Don’t know if the dealer ever replaced that air filter.
  7. One day I went to start my car and it just wouldn't turn on, and the battery light was on and it sounded like a dead battery so i got a new one since it was almost time anyways. Shortly after doing so the same thing kept happening so i thought it was fuel injector or some type of problem with the fuses so I took it to the dealership and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. This problem however doesn't happen every time i start the car, in cold weather it happened a lot so i assumed the engine just needed to get warmed up so i would start it in neutral with the e brake on so i could rev the engine and get it going. things seemed to be getting better as the weather got warmer but it still happens every once in a while but usually starts after a few tries. The engine only has about 70,000 miles on it, and today when I went to start it the same thing had happened however unlike before as the "service engine system" would pop on and off randomly, the message "service charging system" popped up and followed by "battery not charging". This is the first time this message has popped up and I'm hoping it will help me solve the problem. does anyone have any idea of what it might be? Thanks in advance!
