  1. Forgot to mention............I was "offered" a big fat $10,000 trade for my 03 Deville with 51k miles ! I wasn't insulted or shocked................. Considering the 07 DTS they had were $26k ! But they were nothing special no bose, chromies, sunroofs or diamond paint. Just rent a car base specials in white, cashmere, or silver ! Quite the deal for anyone who wants to finally step up to a current year Cadillac and send their camcord to the crusher ! Its just funny Cadillacs suffer such depreciation as with most American cars ! I recently traded my 04 Chevy 2500 x-cab 4x4 for a 07 Chevy 2500 x-cab 4x4 and they gave me $21,500 ! Of course they sold it 2 days later for $23,900 ! Oh well.............I get the GM employee deal and only paid $29k new. My Deville was $48k sticker and my GM deal was around $33k after rebates, employee bonus cash, Cadillac loyalty bonus, GM card etc. Wow ! $10 grand trade........... But its been almost troublefree and i will expect another several years of service before I get another !
  2. Heck in my neck of the woods Syracuse NY the local Caddy dealer has 07 DTS (ex-rentals) $26,000 , 07 STS v-8 awd? $33K, 05 SRX v-8 awd $27k, 05 SRX v-6 $24k, 04 SRX v-6 awd $19k !!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUCH!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't make sense to buy new !
  3. I wonder if your Caddy has the speed controlled volume feature and it may be activated???????? I know my GM trucks of that year have it. Can't remember if my 96 Deville had it? Anyone????.......................
  4. My 03 Deville starts in 1st with the TC off also...................... My 96 or moms 98 Deville both started in 2nd! ...........geo
  5. If indeed your EBTCM module is bad check E-bay. There are several rebuilders of this very pricey unit...................
  6. Both my Caddy and truck are near the end of their factory warranties................. After getting screwed by a aftermarket warranty company years back only a mfr. backed warranty is advisable........................ The Black GM dealer http://www.gmoutlet.com indeed has the best GMPP prices anywhere for any GM vehicle. Whats funny is the price difference between a Majorguard plan for my truck $700.........Caddy $2,800 for a 3/36 plan........................geo
  7. I have no problem while its still under warranty............. Its after that scares me !
  8. Well folks..............I may be a N*star problems victim. Last month I noticed the low coolant message on my 03 deville w/45k miles. I filled the res. tank with some Deathcool to the marks and checked for leaks and such. Haven't noticed any excessive white smoke out of the exaust, fogging of the windows, or coolant/AF smell. Because of the nasty weather I have been driving my 4x4 truck but needed to run to Rochester a few times this week to pick up family at the airport. So the luxoboat cruiser was needed..................... Sure enough the low coolant/AF message came on and the res. was bone dry! I refilled it then checked the oil and noted for leaks, smoke, fogging................ As always I note the temp guage. But reading in the middle as usual.............. Good news is my 4yr/50k new car warranty is still in effect. So its time for some Mr. Goodwrench warranty service........................... Bummer.....I was expecting to keep this car for at least another 2 years. But if I am gonna have issues its bye-bye time. I wanted to get a new GMT-900 truck this year................... This is my 1st and only issue I have had with this car.............geo
  9. A lot of these GM rims have a coat of clearcoat over the rim itself for shine and protection................ IMO a coating of car wax keeps them shiny! I have seen sets of the fancy PYO wheels ruined on the full size GM trucks from folks using brillo pads or harsh rubbing compounds used on them............... The days of using the brillo pads etc. on the genuine chrome of yesteryear is long gone. Now its tinfoil over plastic !!!!!!!!
  10. Heck....the dealer wanted just under $1000 bucks to do a front brake job on my dads 13k miles 03 s-10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pads, rotors, bearing repack etc. Dealers are scared about liability and replace everything ! Of course this is the 3rd set of front brakes in 13k miles! No more under warranty tho......................... His problem is that he rides the brake pedal and gets pissed when you bust on him about it !!!!!!!!!!!! But yet again no wonder he fries the rotors and pads !!!!!!!! He had 2 s-10s before this one and they are all the same but this is the 1st with problematic brake issues................ The aging of America I guess! His solution??????????? Buy a Dodge dakota !........LOL!!!!!..............geo
  11. Don't feel bad................... I took my 04 Deville 43k miles, chromies, bose, roof around to the dealer to eyeball a new DTS. It was a slow Tuesday and got to take a 07 for a spin and let the salesguy work some numbers. Only offered $14k trade in !!!!!!!!! But to be fair I expected LOW book on a GM employee deal....But 14k???? Oh well....used 06 DTS are on their lot for $25k. 05 Devilles are $19k. 04 SRX $22k...But loaded out with a juicy N-star ! Heck..They had a 04 XLR for $39k....OUCH!!!!! Said thanks and cruised up the road in my freshly washed DeVille !!!!!!!!! Haven't had it 5 years yet so not ready to trade..............geo
  12. Thanks all...............I suppose as long as the weather breaks I will take off the upper hose and check the color of the antifreeze thats in there.................... If its green ............Hmmmmm If its pink/orange I will just drain the overflow/res. tank and refill with Deathcool............. Always had oil changed at the Caddy dealer or the little mechanic shop up the street. Them guys are sharp so I doubt they filled it with the wrong stuff............The Caddy dealer????????? They charge for EVERY extra (washer fluid, ps or trans. fluid etc.) and if they put in any antifreeze they would have noted it as well as charged for it! Can't kick because except for a oil change or 5 and a emission recall (PCM reflash) I haven't seen the dealer much at all except to drool over a XLR or a CTS V. But they have been great and will gladly hand over the keys IF they have a demo hanging out !!!!!!!!!! Not expecting to trade this Caddy soon. Only 45k miles and I like to run them to 100k plus miles !............geo
  13. I know there is that universal stuff which is yellow (forgot the name). Its just the unknown because I can't tell what is actually in the system because their is no rad cap I can't look see . I know better than to mix the different kinds. Of course there has been FEET of snow in my area of NY so have been driving the truck and plow. The rest of my rides are on the winter sleep.................... Don't know if the cold weather has effected the DIC because I have been getting a low tire pressure warnings (all good) along with a low coolant msg. (res. full to marks)............. Haven't driven it too much lately! The odd colored coolant has me wondering..............
  14. What coolant do I use in my 03 Deville 4.6 Northstar? The boss can't find the owners manual and it has GREEN colored coolant/antifreeze in the res. bottle so I am stumped........................... And of course no rad. cap to eyeball whats in there ! My 04 truck has the pink Dexcool and I thought all GMs after 96? use the pink Dexcool. I doubt its ever been added to or changed because I have had it from new. Any ideas?........TIA........geo
  15. NO PISSIN" contest......................... Just difficult doing a retanking on the roadside. Time was short, NO proper tools, never retanked one before, local rad. shop not interested in doing it. My choices were limited............. It it were one of MY cars...... for the aggrivation (spl) and the few dollar difference and did I mention TIME? A complete replacement unit no matter if it was brass, copper, aluminum, or horsefeathers would of been my choice.....................
  16. Well..........Wooptie, wooptie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must live a CHARMED life then! In MY experience a plastic retanking is "iffy" at best no matter what side tanks you buy ! Most likely those plastic pieces are made at the same 3rd world sweatshop and not by GM or VW.................. I think it would be mostly experience replacing those plastic side tanks. Having the CORRECT crimping tools not to mention the risk and time involved doing it your self....................... Would I rather spend $200 plus MY TIME on risking a tricky repair or spending the SAME $$ (or less) not to mention my TIME and buying a NEW radiator ???????????? Did I mention I was doing this repair while on vacation on the side of the road with borrowed tools in SanDiego to my SISTERS POS vw ? Mention VW to the local radiator shop and they either saw $$$$ signs or didn't want to be bothered. Couldn't see the poor girl gettin' screwed at a vw dealer !!!!! After a few phone calls the replacement (all metal) radiator was the best permanent repair that could be made so I could get back on the plane and head back home to Fla.....(After a stop in Vegas!)................. Pretty hard to keep a eye on a "cobbled" tank repair from 1500 miles away cuz I can't see that far !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Don't bother !!!!!!!!!! These plastic side tank radiators suck ! "Retanking" is tricky at best. No guarantee that they won't pop a leak down the road. Best bet..........Get a aftermarket solid and old fashoned 100% metal side tank replacement radiator. My sisters old VWs side tanks popped and the local radiator shop was iffy at best fixing it and if they did no guarantee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a solid metal (brass?) replacement for $165 from a local radiator suppy house and installed it myself...............geo
  18. If indeed your ABS module is shot...........Before you spend that almost $1000 for a new one at the dealer check out the ABS rebuilders advertising on Flea=Bay. They rebuild and warranty their work. The cost is around $175 ! Good reports on several Caddy (and GM truck sites) from folks who have done this..........................geo
  19. Jason................I was thinking on doing just that ! But with my luck some a-hole will steal it and mess up the grille! Still is a cheesy attachment method on a otherwise nice emblem. Sure miss the stand up Caddy crest on my 03s hood tho. I had one swiped off my 90 so I think the one in the grille on my 03 is safe from theft.......................geo
  20. Mine has a #7 on it. Still haven't put it on the DeVille tho...... The cheap plastic fastener that holds it too the grill back side looks like it will break if touched !!! Not to mention what these harsh NY winters will do also!
  21. GUYS.......I did the resistor trick on my 96 Deville to turn off the SSS light. Can't remember the ohm value and the old posts are long gone (courtesy of the troll sob hacker a short time ago). Also note another CCR resistor trick and instructions to shut off the SSS message light for Sevilles and 95 and older Devilles is located in the "How to and FAQ" section. ............geo
  22. When the electric struts went south on my 96 it was gonna cost a cool $2500 BIG ones at the Caddy dealer !!!!!!!!!!! So I happily got a new 03 DeVille !................geo
  23. For my 96 DeVille with those electric front struts it was gonna cost $2500 bucks to replace them at the Caddy dealer........ So goodbye 96...Hello 03 !!!!!!!!!!!! For most folks with a older caddy the Boston or Arnott struts are the only way out...........geo
  24. Hatch...........Where do you live ? My 96 Deville had a pump die during the winter of ALL times ! Garage tech dropped the tank and found a broken wire from salt corrosion !..................geo
