  1. Im starting to see "Starting Problems" post. Is this something that is creeping up on the radar for the 2005+ Northstar engines? I will soon have 110,000 on my 2006... Never have had a glitch on starting and it has never had a code show up. Well... except for when I left it parked for about 10 days with the Radar Detector on and the cell phone charger plugged in and they ran the battery down... LOL So have you seen any issues with your vehicle, that may be categorized as chronic issues? Or any issues that my be manufacturer related?

  3. Yes I have another key. I didn't think about that. I will try my other key. I will let you know what happens.
  4. I checked the terminal connections on the battery, and they were good. I think it is one of the relays in the fuse/relay box under the back seat. When I turn my key to the ON position, I hear the relay toggling as if there is a lose connection somewhere that latches the relay. It eventually latches and the car starts. But I'm wondering if its a loose connection somewhere, or is it a bad relay. I know which relay it is, but I'm wondering if it is the relay or a connection. Any suggestions how to determine this. I was told to change it with the same model replay from another spot, but I don't want to take it from a spot that may cause other problems from the (possible) bad relay. I don't have a schematic to determine what relay goes to which functions of the car. Any suggestions or PDF or some other format schematic for the fuse box?

  6. I will give that a try. I cleaned them a few months ago in the summer, but I will take a look at it and try it again.
  7. I was wondering if anyone had the same issue before or had any insight on what is going on with my car. I have 99 STS. Recently my car has been acting weird when I start it. The first instance was, I started my car and it started up fine, then it just died. I restarted it and it started like a champ. Over time, I start my car and it just turns over, not all the time, but it happens. I turn it to the off position and restart it and it starts like a champ. It does this sometimes, but not all the time. Some of the things that I noticed that was a bit strange was. The other night I tried to start it, it didn't start, I turned it off and retried and it didn't start again. My fog light were switched on, but they didn't come on as usual when I turn the car on, and the speedometer and RPM gauge didn't illuminate, but the headlights turned on. I turned the key to the off position and just turned it to the on position, not trying to start it, and after a few seconds the fog lights came on and the gauges. I tried to start it and it started like a champ. Whenever it acts goofy, I notice that the fog lights are not on and the gauges go out. other things may be happening, but I just haven't notices yet, but those are the things I know that are happening when it wont start. Like I said, once the fog lights and gauges illuminate, which is after a few seconds with the key on, it starts without a problem. I was wondering if there is a relay going bad or switch. If anyone has seen this or have suggestions, I would welcome your comments.
  8. I have read through many of the threads, and I have not seen many issues. I was wondering if the V8 Northstar engine 2005 and up models has the same issues as the earlier model V8 Northstar engines? Far as having the overheating, heads separating from the block from bad threads on mounting bolts. Are the 2005+ model Northstar engines more reliable than the earlier models? I plan on purchasing a 2005+ model STS, and I wanted to know if these models have known problems before I buy one. If anyone could relay any info, I would appreciate your help.
  9. Would those be the 3 silver lines running under the middle of the car?
  10. Are those line located under the car by the exhaust lines? When you say Solenoid to the Canister what are you referring to?
  11. So if there is holes and leaks, does that whole gas tank have to be replaced? Or, is there a way to seal the leaks? If I don't smell gas or see rust, what would be my next step?
  12. My check engine light keeps coming on for "CHECK GAS CAP". I have changed my gas cap with a brand new one. And it came back. I know its not the gas cap. Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? Thanks for any assistance.
  13. Can you provide the info. We would like to know how to do it without a Tech scanner.
