  1. I have seen the leak, I am going to get a camera in there this weekend and see if I can't post a few pics for everyone to see. I did send the oil sample to blackstone for testing and there is no coolant in it. I did not have any exhaust fumes in the coolant tank and I am not loosing any. But I will try the turkey baster. When the can was on the lift, you can see the oil just barely seep out under idle. I did run Carfax on the car, it comes back as a clean regularly maintained, 2 owner car. The guy I know at Cadillac brought the same point up about the the possibility of the motor being swa
  2. I have now taken the car to two differnt indepedent mechanics, told them I had had an oil leak and please find it. Both, confirm its a crack about 6 inches long running paralell to the crank 3 inches above where the block is split. All 3 mechanics concur, only a front end collision or a too much water in the block and froze and cracked. The car has no signs what so ever of a collision, all 3 said the same thing. Car has never been wrecked in the front. Jasper motors are well over $5,000.00. I'm thinking I may use a Northstar performance Motor. Its $2,700.00 and labor at the 2 other mechanics
  3. Hi everyone, thank you for all the input on my oil leak. Its wasn't the oil cooler line, or a sending switch. My 57,000 200 STS has a cracked block. 6 inch long crack running lateral across the block if you were looking at the front of the car. Anybody have an idea of what an engine costs to replace? Dealer is saying around $6,500.00. $4,000.00 for motor, and $2,500.00 in labor. Does that sound right? Has anybody on here bought a rebuilt motor yet from Northstar Performance in Canada? Their motors are $2,700.00 shipped with their timeserts already installed and a 3 year 100,000 warranty. A
  4. Will do. Is that ABS code anything to worry about?
  5. Only the ABS one, and I will post that later when I get home I have it written down. I had the coil packs off this weekend when I changed all the plugs out. I used the ac delco platinums like everyone suggests here. Some of the coil pack plugs had a little bit of corrosion so I used scotch brite and cleaned them up. The Mis-fire seemed to be consistant to the "tick" I had. Once I performed the WOT as suggested here the tick went away, the the minor misfire was still there. NEVER EVER EVER use SCOTCHBRITE... Never use it for automotive work its dangerous.... Its not so dangerous for wh

  7. Thanks Flo. I didn't even realize they were still there. I grew up in that area and they have been there for a long time. The only problem is I live over an hour west of there.
  8. I had a 96 STS that I bought with 39,000 miles and had it serviced at a local dealership unitl it had 191,000. Then I picked up my 2000 sts. But the dealership switched out the service manager and most of the mechanics, and their services just have not been the same. Some of you seem to be from around my area, so I thought maybe I would see who everyone else is using from general service to major repair. I normally like to stick to one mechanic.
  9. I pulled the codes and the only one that was there was one for the ABS, the rest said "no codes".
  10. Above the oil filter adapter are the A & B CKP sensors, but I've never heard of them leaking oil, nor have I ever heard of a rod knock on a Northstar. I found the knock. I found a few posts here about carbon build up. I did the WOT therapy, seemed to do the trick. Nice and quiet now. Not sure the previous 72 year old owner ever laid into this car. Thanks everybody for your feed back. Its greatly aprreciated.
  11. Anybody know a very reputable northstar mechanic in the chicagoland area?
  12. Sprayed brake cleaner on the rubber coupler and on the surrounding areas no increase in rpms. Also took the coupler off right after and inspected, no cracks or tears. I had the car on a rack today and looked for the oil leak, I cleaned everything up and it looks like its coming from above the sensors and cooler line. Is there anything else up there? Also what sounded like a tick up top sounds more like a in consistant knock inside the oil pan. Every hear of a rod knock on 56k Northstar?
  13. I have a 2000 STS With 57,000 miles on the clock. At idle the car has a very very mild misfire, and it is associated with "tick" on the back bank closest to the dash board. It doesn't matter if its hot or cold. I also noticed on my garage floor that I have an oil leak as well, but its coming from the bank closest to the radiator. I pulled all the plugs front and rear banks and they are completely dry and correct color. There is some oil in the spark plug wells, but I read some posts that its the o-ring seals in the cam cover. The oil leak on the front bank looks like it is coming right a
