I will see a wisp of smoke coming from the steering wheel at the top where it meets the column. If I feel the area it is not hot. it sets no codes, but definatly smoke. I have noticed 2 or 3 times in the last 4 months. It will wisp out smoke for about a minute and then stop anyone have a clue what causes this? And what should I look for? jlinde Posted May 25, 2005 Report Share Posted May 25, 2005 Hi, My experience to this is that the copper or brass contacts for the turn signals are getting worn meaning bad contact that will make arcs that burn holes into the hard rubber or plastic around the contact points. After a while those arcs will totally destroy the contacts and isolation- thats what happened to me with a Pontiac -cost here in Sweden for the turn signal switch was $150.
