For the previous generation of V8, the LS7 was a 427 cubic inch (7L) variant making 505 hp. It was offered in a Corvette 427 variant, and the Camaro Z/28. Crate engines are still available.

The next generation Camaro Z/28 may possibly (rumor central) carry a new LTx version of the LS7 called LT7. The new engine would be a variant of the 460 hp LT1 found in the current Camaro SS & Corvette, which is a normally aspirated version of the 640 hp LT4 engine in the CTS-V. The LT7 could make 550-600 hp, and is viewed as a better road racer engine because normally aspirated engines are less likely to heat soak than supercharged or turbo charged engines.

Additionally, some people just love the 427 moniker.

The LS7 also has a reputation for issues -- some sort of valve guide degradation which led to destruction of the engine. Chevrolet said it was a machining error at a supplier and was limited to a few engines. Regardless, the LS7 has a shadowed reputation. So a new LT7 redesign could clear that up.

This engine could make an appearance in the rumored ATS-V+ for those who long for a V8 variant. It also may be a choice for the upcoming mid-engine Corvette or a Cadillac version.
