ted tcb
On startup, the DIC reads EXP 47. A search came up empty. Can someone explain this code for me? Thanks in advance. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
chazglenn3
The EXP codes are programmed for folks that don't speak english. A search of my owners manual shows that the code 47 equates to Change Trans Fluid. At least it does for a 1996 Seville and I assume the 1997 Seville is the same. EXP stands for export. ted tcb
The car shifts smooth as butter .... if it ain't broke, leave it alone? Or, would you take it the dealer for a tranny fluid change? 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
adallak
The car shifts smooth as butter .... if it ain't broke, leave it alone? Or, would you take it the dealer for a tranny fluid change? You can change the fluid if you want to just do not let anyone to flush it. chazglenn3
Well, the transmission fluid is supposed to be good for over 100,000 miles but the PCM will display that message if it determines that the fluid needs to be changed, maybe from being overheated during towing, or something like that. If it is shifting fine like you said and the fluid doesn't look burnt or smell burnt then reset the DIC (I don't remeber the correct button sequence). KHE
If the DIC says to change the trans fluid, then have the trans fluid changed....THEN reset the transaxle oil life indicator. The code is set because the trans oil life is below 10%. Just drain the fluid and refill - don't have someone flush the trans. CadiKing
Lost of information in the archives... Do NOT Flush! Be sure the entire trans is drained correctly, as there is a side cover inside the trans that needs to be drained/pulled to get out all the fluid. The indicator is quite sophisticated and should not be ignored. How many miles/km do you read...? Have you towed, etc.?
ted tcb
I don't know about previous owner, but I've never towed and I see no hitch. CadiKing
Ted, I would follow the recommendation of the DIC. You are 80 percent the way there to 100,k for the change anyway. Better safe than sorry! my .
JimD
I agree with all who urge you to refresh the fluid. Either the tranny temp sensor messed up or the oil has been "hot" for some period of time. Easy enough to do without getting under the car. You can fabricate the plumbing adapter you need to break into the cooler return line at the top LH side of the radiator. Then use the tranny pump to push all the old fluid out into a bucket. ted tcb
Thanks for the advice .... I trust my oil change guy, and I'll have him drain and replace the fluid on my next change. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
