Transmission Solenoid Location for 1995 Deville

Recommended Posts

The first thing you need to do is check for codes to see if anything is set. You have an on board diagnostic computer and you can extract any DTC codes yourself, if you do not know how to do that, say so and we will instruct you how.

There are a few problems that can cause 2nd gear starts, but your problem is most likely the shift solenoids, there are 2 and A and a B solenoid and they both should be replaced and if they come with a bracket the bracket must be used.

If you are going to do this job yourself, the lower pan must be removed, the lower control body must be removed being careful not to lose the check balls that are located in the valve body. Those check balls must go back into the correct locations.

We had believed that the A and B solenoids were the same and it did not matter if they were swapped but we have recently learned that is not true, the two solenoids have different part numbers. The dealer will sell you a kit with both solenoids or you can buy them separately, see www.rockauto.com for the shift solenoids.

While the pan is off, you can change your two pan filters, but many are of the opinion that the filters do no need changing. At the very least I would replace the seals, if any, that the filters plug into in the transmission.

If the pan gasket is good, it can be reused. I personally would buy a new pan gasket, if you send me your address in a PM, Ill send you one, I have it hanging on my garage wall. Use an inch pound torque wrench to properly torque the pan bolts, the worst thing to do is to over tighten the pan bolts and deform the seal.

Here is the check ball location

Here is a photo of the SIDE PAN drain, that you can open to drain the side pan, while the bottom pan is off

Here is a photo of the pan off. Notice how I marked the tightening sequence on the pan, to make it easy to torque the the bolts in proper sequence.
