04' SRX oil leak

My 04' SRX with a 3.6L is leaking oil on the left front of the engine and appears to be coming from down low on the engine behind the A/C compressor. Is anyone familar with this leak and what the repair involves? It's not from the front seal or corner of oil pan because I have already cleaned and rechecked this more than once. Prettey sizeable leak though because it blows back on my exhaust & stinks. Any help appreciated -- thanks --

You really need to get under there and find out what the problem is, it could be a loose cooler line, leaking oil filter adapter seals, CAM cover seals, etc. Some shops will use dye to see where its coming from. We only have one or two SRX's on this board and they are so new that we have not run into many questions on them.. It isn't out of warranty is it?

Got It !! I removed the belts & the A/C Compressor and it is leaking from the base of the oil filter housing where it bolts to the block. Now I just need to sneak the housing off the side of the block & replace the seal or gasket. Called Caddy & the part is about eight bucks but not a real easy one to get to. Thanks for the reply!

This should help your oil filter adapter is different than the NS's it uses a seal see this

Oil Filter Adapter Replacement

Removal Procedure

Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

Remove the A/C compressor and power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Power Steering and Air Conditioning .

Important

Do not disconnect the A/C pipes from the A/C compressor.

Remove the A/C compressor bolts and reposition the A/C compressor in order to gain access to the oil filter adapter fasteners.

Remove the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Removal .

Oil Filter Adapter Removal

Remove the oil filter cap.

Remove and properly dispose of the oil filter cartridge.

Re-install the oil filter cap.

Remove the oil filter adapter bolts (1-3) from the engine block.

Remove the oil filter adapter.

Remove and discard the oil filter adapter gasket.

Installation Procedure

Install the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Installation .

Install the A/C compressor with the A/C pipes to the engine. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Install the A/C compressor and power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Power Steering and Air Conditioning .

Install the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

Oil Filter Adapter Installation

Position a NEW oil filter adapter gasket onto the oil filter adapter.

Install the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2) into the oil filter adapter.

Loosely tighten the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2).

Install and loosely tighten the oil filter adapter bolt (3) into the oil filter adapter.

Notice

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems

Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2, 3) into the engine block in the sequence shown. Tighten

Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts in sequence to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

Install a NEW oil filter cartridge.

Notice

Lubrication must be applied to the threads of the oil filter cap prior to installation. Failure to lubricate the oil filter cap threads can hinder later removal and cause possible oil filter cap damage.

Lubricate the oil filter cap threads with clean engine oil.

Notice

Proper oil filter cap tightening is mandatory. Failure to tighten the oil filter cap to the proper specification can hinder later removal and cause possible oil filter cap damage.

Install the oil filter cap. Tighten

Tighten the oil filter cap to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

I had stumbled across this website by mistake but found it to be very helpful..I was having same exact issues with my 04 SRX , I was leaking oil really bad to where I was puttin gin 2 - 3 quarts daily. So I took it to a well known auto shop who could not determine where the leak was comming from because so much had leaked..he wanted to remove my engine to find the leak. I had mentioned maybe its the Oil filter housing and they said no. I then wanted a second opion so I took it to a Cadillac dealership who steam sprayed under the car, put dye and found the origin of the leak and it was the same diagnose as yours. I needed a complete Oil Filter housing w/gasket and seal because it was cracked on both sides. The mechanic told me this could have happen when I was getting an oil change and they may have pulled it or twist it wrong causing a crack..go figure..it was expensive because the dealership fixed but it was well worth it!!
