67coupedeville
I heard that on some Northstar engines, the starter is located under the intake manifold? Is that only on some models? Spence
Poobah
I can't vouch for all Northstars, but that's where it is on my '94 Eldo. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
KHE
All Northstar engines have the starter located under the intake manifold. That location keeps it cool, dry, and free of grease/road debris. Scotty
You learn something new everyday. Is it a big job to change or service it in that location? Spence I do not believe that it is, someone here once had purchased and after market starter and mentioned that they had done the job 3 or 4 times and he had the job down to 45 minutes given the practice... the intake gaskets are reusable.. JasonA
The Northstar intake manifold does not have a coolant crossover, so removing the intake manifold is relatively easy. No coolant to drain. You don't have to get messy and greasy under the vehicle to change it. I had the intake manifold off one time to check my knock sensor. The starter was right there. The engineers were thinking outside of the box with that one. Great job! Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
