Alright caddy lovers I own a 1997 Deville and I just got hit with a issue idk if it’s big or small or what but no check engine light is on. Okay so when I go start my car up I have to give it some gas and keep my foot there for a little minute or my car will turn off. It sounds as if it turns off like either not getting enough juice from battery or not getting enough gas to engine. But everytime I start it up I have to press the gas or it will cut off on me and nothing is wrong with my car I mean besides this everything is good no problems I am going to need a new belt soon for engine but I know that can’t be the problem. So please somebody help me out idk what’s wrong with her like I said there isn’t any check engine light on and I just did tune up like 4 months ago. Thank you for your time. Smooth riddin.

Also once not too long after this issue popped up I was driving and it felt like when I press the gas to speed up it wasn’t catching or something and then the car shook real ugly for like 1 minute so I stopped and pulled over but no check light came on or anything and it hasn’t happened since?!?!?

2 things come to mind. Either a throttle position sensor, Idle air control, or a coolant temp sensor.

I am leaning more toward TPS or IAC though. The pintle may be plugged or sticking in the throttle body.

When the car idles without having to push on the gas what is its RPM?

Check battery, by having a load test done, if battery is weak coils will not have sufficient current, but... low voltage codes will set, and

Check fuel pressure

Check for codes

High idle is usually caused by a dirty throttle body throat and plate.  Used rubber gloves, carb cleaner and rags.  Do not spray into the throttle body.  Wet the rags only.  Clean the plate good especially the rear of it.

Do yourself a favor and check the fuel pressure.

What is the fuel pressure suppose to be on?

Anywhere between 47-53. 20s is no good, even 35 is not great.

If you cycle key and pressure slowly builds to normal it is likely plugged filter

(rockfangd posted this in a 2015 thread)

Please explain the above statement in more detail.   what wasn't catching up?   It is possible that you have multiple problems going on, you are complaining about

high idle

not catching up, (which sounds transmission related)

stalling hard starting ( But everytime I start it up I have to press the gas or it will cut off on me )

shaking

PLEASE check the codes, I do not want to know if there is a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, I want you to check codes, a HISTORY code may help us.
