Horn question

Hi All.

Tired of the horn issues on my 97 D'elegance.

I have located 3 horns. 1 on the driver side, 2 on the passenger side. I will have to check to see what notes they are.

I want to rebuild all of the horns but am not sure where the fourth is located.

Maybe It is separate from the others in the fender or something. Anyone know?

When they work they seem fine, but when they dont the relay just clicks.

More than likely it was caused by the lovely airbag contact issue that used to make the horns blare for no apparent reason.

I seem to have that issue resolved (I hope)

The A & D notes are at the RT front.

The C note is at LT front.

The F note is by the battery

IIRC they were the "train sound" 4 note 120db system, or maybe I'm remembering the older vintage "eighties" version.

Thank you. I figured.

I found a nice video on youtube on how to repair these horns. I have done one so far, cant wait to do them all and see how well they work.

It may be that there was only one left working that is intermittent. I should find out when  i install one of them.

4 horns, thats incredible. Some had 6. Surely a thing of the past

To update this

It seems I finally got my horns working.

Airbag, cancel cam, horns, and relay all had to be replaced.

Airbag was the worst as it was likely the cause of the failure of the horns and relay as it used to sound off randomly when it got cold outside

I hate working on the steering column, glad you got it fixed.

How did the air bag cause this?

Many GMs of this era had issue with the Airbags. The contacts get stiff when cold and cause them to make contact.

96 was the last year recalled IIRC but my 97 may be a earlier production that had a leftover.

It used to blow randomly continously unless the fuse was pulled.

My 97 Seville has never had the issue(yet)

My 96 Deville was spotty, it only worked when pressed hard in the right spots.

I have run into it countless times, seems buicks were the worst for it. The horns would not stop blaring. I have seen  many with the fuse pulled and if you try to install a fuse it just blows. lol.

Nothing like a 4 note going off in the middle of the night to make friends with your neighbors.

I have some pics of my repair. You would probably be surprised

On a high note. It is great to have my horns working. Very loud.

I forgot to plug in the IAT sensor and could not think of why the Service engine light came on. At least I know that works.

That score is the Community reputation and is a sum of Hearts (likes) and Thanks.  So to raise that score for someone like or thank them on a post.

I suppose it takes a refresh for it to update.  I also suppose that critical input would decrease this score.
