Greetings!

The Service Tire Monitor light is on within my 2005 STS, and the right front tire is showing '-- RF PRESSURE --' where it would normally show pressure. I realize this is most likely due to the sensor within the tire. However, my (new) mechanic was mentioning that a magnet can be used to reset or introduce if you will, the new sensor to the system? I thought a specialized device was required to perform this.

Any enlightenment greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have no idea if this procedure will work on a 2005 model system. You have nothing to lose by trying!!

Use a large magnet. If this procedure fails, use a larger magnet.

1) Ignition ON.

2) Press LOCK + UN-LOCK key fob button simultaneously until the horn chirps.

3) Starting with LF wheel, hold the magnet against the valve stem

until the horn chirps. Then RF, then RR, then LR. After LR, the horn

will chirp twice to indicate the relearn was successful.

There is a timer running that allows 1 minute between wheels and

5 minutes total elapsed time.

Jim,

Thank you very much but as mentioned in the post re the 2003, this method will not function in the 2005 either.

If you have a Discount Tire or NTB close to you... stop by there and they will do it for you...

It doesn't take them but about 1 minute.

They have a little machine that they touch to each valve stem.

If it will not "RELEARN"...that will also tell you, that particular sensor is bad.

And if you want to try it yourself... you will need a source of air so that you can air all the tires back up to recommended pressure.

You can start the relearn procedure from the DIC...

The horn will chirp "ONCE" when it is ready to start...

Let air out of the drivers side front tire till the horn chirps one more time...

then do the passengers side front tire till the horn chirps...

then do the passengers side rear tire till the horn chirps...

then do the drivers side rear tire...and at this point the horn will chirp TWICE to tell you it is done and the procedure was completed correctly.

You have a total of five minutes to complete the entire procedure...

From my experience you don't need to continuous change the tire pressure until the horn chirp. Just fill or let out air for +5sec and then wait for the response from the system. It does only update with low frequency to save battery, so sometimes it takes longer time for next transmission.
