billenglish
Hi, I just bought a 96 DeVille. I just changed the oil, and I found "rocks" in the oil! Thankfully these are not metal, they appear to be carbon deposits or coke, 1-3 mm in dia. I can crush them with my fingernail. The engine (Northstar) runs great, and my codes are PC0507 and RS0038. I occasionally get service idle control system on the monitor. Are the rocks anything to be worried about, and why didnt the oil filter catch these. Thanks in advance, Bill
Ranger
Well, if you can crush them with your finger nail, they can't do much damage, but how they got there is a mystery. Might check to see if there was any recent major service performed that would have had the engine opened. Perhaps someone did sloppy job and allowed some carbon deposits to drop down in the crankcase. I can't think of any other explanation.
