Jbird06410
Here's the story -- I bought a 2000 Cadillac STS about 2 months ago.... Last weekend we had the rotors and Brake pads replaced. The next day(Sunday) my husband replaced the backup lights and the brake lights. We took the car for a ride and noticed the traction control light came on. Monday morning the car overheated on the highway and I had to have it towed and had the thermostat replaced. Tuesday - I noticed the traction light AND the Have Electrical System serviced message appeared. Brought it back to the place dthat did the brakes...they went over it and could not find a problem. (actually they said it was all set) I drove it down the street and the light came back on. Thursday I brought the car to a GM dealer....Saturday they told me the Cruise control had to be replaced. (took from Thursday to Saturday to tell me that). Monday they call and tell me that the cart would be ready to be picked up.....They pulled the car out and guess what!!! the traction control light came on. We had the dealer put the car back toghether and I am going to pick it up tonight. Traction Light is still on. Any ideas?!? My husband thinks he may have done something when he replaced the lights. Help I own a 2002 Cadillac Deville and also had the brake pads and rotors replaced and have had the same problem with the traction contril light on since the brake repairs. I understand that the light can come on if the rotors are overheating. Is this correct?
BodybyFisher
It is most likely that the mechanic knocked off an electrical connector off the strut or level control or ABS. If you run the codes and post them we can direct you to which wheel it is, Mike Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
mdc
I am not sure how to run the codes - maybe what I can do is check all the wheels to see if there is an electrical connector that has been knocked off, Marcel
BodybyFisher
I am not sure how to run the codes - maybe what I can do is check all the wheels to see if there is an electrical connector that has been knocked off, Marcel Yes you can do that take a look behind the wheels for loose connectors turn the wheel each way and look, check the front and back. There should be a connector attached to the strut, one coming out of the back of the hub bearing assembly, at the inside, where the axle shaft goes into the hub bearing assembly, there is an ABS connector there, as the wheel turns the hub assembly sends its turning rate to the ABS computer. There will also be a connector for the level assembly. ALSO, make sure that the rod from the level assembly is connected between the level assembly and the lower control arm. But, if you want to check your codes do this: Go to the top of this page, and click How-To Scan down the page to "DTC Codes" Click "Reading Self-Diagnostic Codes" Go down to this "DTC display; 1998-2004 Seville and 2000-2005 Deville, by JimD Follow the directions, Have a pencil ready and write down the codes. Start over again if you miss any. Post them here, and we can help you find out what is wrong. You can't hurt anything so don't worry. Ranger
I understand that the light can come on if the rotors are overheating. Not likely. The rotors would have to get and stay red hot long enough to heat the hub and burn up the sensor. You'd have bigger problems by then.
mdc
I ran the codes as you suggested and this is what it showed: ABS C1295, DDMU1713, IPB08429 Current, IPMB1004 History, IRC1016 History, PDMU1713 History, RCCU1000 History, RIMC0663 Current. All other codes showed No Codes. I then cleared all codes but the following code still showed i.e. RIMC0663 What do you think?

C1295 - Brake Lamp Switch Circuit Open This could easily be a brake pedal switch not adjusted properly. Or a driver resting their left foot on the brake pedal. C0663 - Level Control Exhaust Valve Circuit High Something is acting up with the compressor control circuit for the rear air bags. Do you have a SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM message? OBDII codes take the standard form of one letter followed by four digits as in C1295. Not all of the codes you reported translate. "U" codes are not a major concern. Jim Drive your car. Ranger
IPB08429 Current. I suspect you mean B0429. It's the auxiliary (rear) temp control actuator. Very common and you may not even know there is a problem. Ignore it if the rear heat seems to work OK.

It will usually pop up when I am driving the car and sometimes not at all. When it does happen, if I turn the ignition off and then restart the car, the TRACTION CONTROL message is gone. Of course it does show up at ignition along with the other "icons".
BodybyFisher
In diagnosing the Cruise Control, they may have disconnected a plug at the brake pedal. That C1295, Brake Lamp Switch Circuit Open means to me that when you hit the brake, the switch is OPEN, meaning it is not closing to 1) turn on your brake lights or 2) to cancel the cruise control. As you know when you tap your brake, it cancels the cruise control, if they disconnected the connector at the pedal, that might be why you are getting the C1295 and that might be related to the ABS light. When you PRESS the brake, this switch CLOSES Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
