Regis
This past Sunday I replaced the right front hub bearing as well as both front brake pads. No more rumbling coming from the front end. However, now I have an intermittent slight shimmy as I'm at highway speeds and as I'm braking. The car actually stops much better than it has in years even with the intermittent shimmy. This is what I think it is. During the removal of both rotors, I noticed that the inboard side of the left front rotor was bubbling and flaking badly at the edges. When I started to knock off the flakes I noticed that they were coming off in small deep chunks (dime size). I thought to myself "uuum... this can't be good". The new pads are quite a bit wider than the old pads and contact the rotors all the way to the outer edge. I believe the shimmy or intermittent vibration is from the pads contacting the vastly uneven outer edge surface. I picked up a pair of Bendix rotors tonight and should have them on this Sunday. I'll report any changes. "Burns" rubber " I've never considered myself to be all that conservative, but it seems the more liberal some people get the more conservative I become. Regis
Finished installing the new rotors earlier today and took the caddy for a short run afterwards. I also rotated the tires front to back. This evening some friends wanted to meet for dinner, a decent clip away, so it was a good opportunity to really drive the caddy hard. Lots of 60 to 85mph blasts and hard cornering. I'm happy to report that she passed with flying colors and that the intermittent vibration is gone.
