  1. Driver Side Mirror Glass

    Forget the dealer's service department. Take it to the dealer's body shop manager. Those folks deal with mirror glass all day every day. Or you could do it yourself; it's not as difficult as it sounds.
  2. 1998 and 1999 Sevilles had liquid cooled alternators. I don't know about Devilles . I hear folks bad-mouthing liquid cooled alternators but my experience could not have been better. Factory installed part still going strong at 200,000 + miles.
  3. I drove a SRX dealer loaner for four days and I'm surprised Cadillac sold any of them. SUVs are not my favorite vehicles and that beast was hard to park, did not deliver Cadillac comfort, underpowered, and a gas hog.

    Water could be and was used during takeoff on various multi engine (radial engines) bombers in Europe and the Pacific during "the big one". When the aircraft was really heavy, the temperature high, the runway short,.... well you get the picture. Interesting that water injection is being considered in these days of turbo/supercharger boosting. In 1962 and early 1963 the Air Force used KB50's for inflight refueling... they had four R-4360's which is a 28 cylinder radial engine with 7 magnetos and 56 spark plugs. It was equipped with ADI... Normal power was 3500 HP at 55 inches of boost, but with ADI and 63 inches of boost on takeoff, power was 3750 HP. There was another version that put out 4300 HP
  5. Many factors involved and it all boils down to combustion chamber design compromises. And since most engines have flat top pistons, the combustion chamber "design" tricks are accomplished in the cylinder head portion of the chamber. He did not show us the head chambers. The little bit of carbon buildup on those Toyota pistons could probably be removed with a few applications of WOT therapy. The 'harmful' carbon buildup occurs in the valve area, in particular the valve seats. What I would expect a "fuel system cleaner" to do is prevent gumming of the injector orifices. And the additives in Tier one gasolines do that very nicely. Treating carbon buildup with a fuel system cleaner is a bit of a misnomer.
  6. What the camera cannot show is the potential damage to fuel pump and fuel injector winding insulation. IF the chemistry of any aftermarket "carbon cleaner" is even a little bit of a varnish remover, the insulation on the fuel pump and injector windings can be softened or compromised. And one sure way to find out is to pour the product in your gas tank. Use the fuel additive that GM recommends: NONE.
  7. Write this down 100 times, Jim. There is nothing vacuum operated in the cabin of 1998+ Sevilles. There is nothing vacuum operated in the cabin of 2000+ Devilles.
  8. I would have the battery load tested several more times to be sure the results are consistent. Run that test again with alligator clips on your test leads. The value you want is the current draw after the RAP (Retained Accessory Power) drops out; approximately 10 minutes. A value in the neighborhood of 25 ma is great. Do not open or close any doors during the test period. If your draw does fall to ~~ 25 ma, you are chasing mild corrosion/oxidation on ALL battery cables, including to the fuse panels, OR you are back to a questionable battery. The installer will have to answer that question.
  9. Noisy strut mount?

    That 'line' comes out of a cylinder at the bottom inboard section, right? That is an electrical harness for each strut. Follow the harness and you will arrive at a place where the strut can be disconnected from the chassis wiring. Likely on the inboard surface of the engine cradle. A simple two pin connector. Any shop that advertises alignment will be able to do that for you. Call around and ask.

It's the fully loaded GT model that appears to be in motion and Steve McQueen driven even while sitting in a grocery store parking lot!
  11. Noisy strut mount?

    No. The strut assembly must be removed from the car and the spring removed from the strut to replace the strut mount (thrust bearing). A spring compressor is required. Many folks are not comfortable using aftermarket spring compressors because a compressed suspension spring is a loaded cannon. Take your parts to a well equipped shop and they will do the mount replacement for a reasonable labor charge. You "might be able" to confirm or deny failed mounts by supporting the front end on jack stands and prying up on the bottom of the tire to see if you can 'sort of' duplicate the noise.
