coolant temp sensor

can someone tell me where thhe coolant temperature sensor is located on a 97 Seville. The one for the ECM.

Also is there one or two?

reason why I ask about one or two is because many vehicles use 2 sensors, 1 sensor, and one sender for the gauge. but it seems there is only one on the northstar.

Thanks

Fisher may have posted the wrong picture.

The coolant sensor is screwed into the rear cylinder head, drivers side end, under the EGR and brake booster area. The coolant gauge gets its info from the PCM data. So there is only one temperture sensor.

NO its NOT in the crossover its under the crossover in the rear head. That photo came DIRECTLY out of the GM SI manual and #3 is the ECT sensor

You will notice that NONE of the plugs are plugged in in the photo, so its exact location is not definate, its approximate, but it is a bad photo, Ill post another

Its part of the rear wiring harness, in this photo its directly below the EGR, but again its only approximate, but there shouldnt be anything else in the area it should be clear, beside you know what a temp sensor looks like, it should shout out to you

it looks like its impossible to get to, look behind the throttle body down by the head and it sticks out. Theres all kinds of things above it that make it look impossible to get to but you can actually fish your hand down to it pretty easy and get an air wratchet on.

Here are a couple pics of my engine out of the car. Its a 99 but probably the same for the temp sensor. The left is showing the tranny for orientation and the right is close up. The green item in the center is the one.

BBF as you can see I finally got the engine out of the car, in another 2 months I should be able to get it apart! Wow I should do this for a living as quick as I work:P. I hoped to at least help someone out since I am not getting much done.

didnt say impact, just the air wrench. If you can move a wracheting wrench enough then use one of them.

off topic question to you or others. I seen at the junkyards yesterday someone removed the heads on a northstar and there in the valley between the heads I seen a starter  Is that really where the starter is mounted? Under the intake? Crap thats an involved repair!
