CoupeDTS Posted January 4, 2010 Report Share Posted January 4, 2010 Warning BEWARE of the $85 fuel pump on ebay from Global Automotive. This is a review of my experience. Like many devilles my 2000 DTS had an erratic gas gauge when under half full. I bought the cheapest pump I could find on ebay which also stated it would fix my fuel gauge and had the new plug on the pump required by GM. They had a good feedback rating as well. I installed the pump and it worked as far as pumping gas but my gauge was really screwed up. I researched more into other brands of fuel pumps and the pump I bought and noticed a design difference. The sensor on the leveling arm was mounted 2” lower on the cheap pump I bought compared to the 5 other brands I found. (I say CHEAP pump meaning the global pump was the cheaper in price pump compared to any others listed) I explained this to the company and they told me my gauge wiring must be bad. I tested the ohms on their sensor and it checked out, and my gauge was fine, so it was obvious their pump had a design flaw. I bought an airtex pump meanwhile. I took out the cheap pump and took pictures of it next to the airtex, not only was the sensor positioned wrong the whole assembly was too short on the cheap pump. I know when I installed it that it didn’t compress down. They are spring loaded and are supposed to compress down. After researching the company more I found a lot said about them on ripoffreport.com. They did send me a return number and after a paypal dispute they quickly refunded my money. Unfortunately I left them positive feedback prematurely. But even though I CLEARLY explained to them how their design is flawed they CONTINUE TO SELL THESE ON EBAY. I don’t think they care about their customers but it’s bad to sell these saying they will work on devilles or probably sevilles or others because from my experiences they do not. The part number is E3518M. They told me they’ve sold thousands of these with no complaints. I cant belive that. I feel bad if someone not mechanically inclined that has one of these installed at a shop and the shop tells that person their gauge must be bad and make them spend a bunch of money on a new gauge only to still not solve the problem. So BEWARE! If someone wishes to pass this on to cadillac forums so they can see my review of their pump you can. Anyway of getting the word out on these people would make me feel better to help out the cadillac community. I cannot get onto that forum. They MAY make a good product line but from my experience and my opinion is this product is false advertising saying it works in a deville. I cannot MAKE you NOT buy their pump or DIRECTLY HARM them with my review of their product. I only want to provide MY OPINION of their product. It is YOUR decision and YOU are responsible for the consequences if you do buy their pump. I only want to create some FEEDBACK and REVIEW this product for others to see and BEWARE of. Just like any car review this is just a comparison to another brand of fuel pump saying that the global pump is not as good. You be the judge if you want to buy one. By the way it was super easy to swap fuel pumps. Theres an access panel in the trunk. Take off the 2 hoses. Unplug the two harnesses. Use a hammer and screwdriver and undo the hold down ring. Swap over any parts needed onto the new pump. Reinstall. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI. Condition/Concern: Some vehicles may run out of fuel while the fuel gauge still indicates that there is fuel in the tank. Due to different reactive sulfur levels in gasoline, this may be noticed more in certain areas of the country than others. Recommendation/Instructions: This could be the result of reactive sulfur in the fuel, which can cause corrosive film build up on the fuel level sensor contacts. This film may change the resistance of the fuel level sensor and affect the fuel gauge operation. If the fuel level sensor has been replaced for this condition, came back after a period of time with the same condition and the published diagnostics leads to fuel level sensor replacement again, the following may prevent a repeat occurrence: Properly dispose of all fuel in the tank. Clean the inside of the fuel tank. (See the SI "fuel system cleaning" procedure.) Replace the fuel level sensor. Refill the fuel tank with fuel from a high quality, high volume filling station. Advise the customer to only use fuel from a high quality, high volume filling station. Note: If the vehicle is equipped with a gasoline engine, refer to bulletin 04-06-04-057 for installing a bottle of GM Fuel Injector Cleaner, part number 12345104, to the fuel system. In addition to cleaning fuel injectors, this may prevent future gas gauge concerns that are due to related to corrosive film build up on the fuel level sensor contacts. . Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. Chevron, Shell, Sunoco high volume stations only hmm... we have shell but none of the others. I thought all gas stations are high volume LOL. Besides the run down places that have the old pumps that dont take cards and have unusually high prices for no reason but the owner thinks they will make more money that way but instead nobody goes there. My main reason for posting was to warn others about this company selling fuel pumps. My problem has been solved and will take the advisement of the sensor problems. I tested the original pumps ohms on the sensor and it was off. A very intelligent electrician friend of mine also looked at the grid on the sensor and said he could tell where it was failing without me telling at what point it didnt work. I also find it strange my friends have higher mileage devilles and go to the same gas stations but dont have this problem. If it shows up though Ill know whats up. I have comparison pictures of the their pump next to an airtex pump and with the arm all the way up and all the way down, and you can see the cheap pump doesnt even read right all the way empty. I had .5 gallon of gas left with that pump and it was reading a tick above empty, when it should have been buried on empty for a couple gallons. The wiring was simple to me, 2 fat wires and 2 skinny wires go to 2 fat wires and 2 skinny wires, all had different colors. I wired it right, the pump is the design problem. That company has a phone number but they tell you to just email them on the message. Get a return number for the pump and start a paypal dispute if they do not honor your refund and your money will be returned immediately. I warned them to quit selling these for their own good because they are going to be getting alot of them in return that have been used and not resellable. But they obviously dont care about customers. See ripoffreport.com or just google their name to see more reviews of the company. Notice the position of the sensor. Also overall height, the cheap pump is shorter. I took pictures of how they would read when gauge should read full and empty.
