Now mind you my a/c doesnt blow cold but the heater did work. as I reached further north on I-95, I started to smell a burning smell from the vents when i had the hater blowing, and i realised the heater was no longer burning. I turned it off and thought maybe it was the outside area that had that smell, but later in the trip i decided to turn it back on and i smelled it again. Texas Jim Posted March 12, 2008 Report Share Posted March 12, 2008 You started the trip with heater working.. ie...blowing. Then you smelled burning...whenever you had the blower on. sts4rmdapast Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 an now i feel an intense heat flowing from the vents as i drive, and i dont have the a/c or heater engaged. i actually sit here now with the smell of smoke in my clothes. the was white smoke flowing thru the vents inside and the vents next to the wipers. What kind of smoke are you getting, exhaust/oil or electrical? Coming from the firewall?, what smell is coming THROUGH the VENTS? Electrical, OIL BURNING or EXHAUST? Look closely at the HVAC housing under the hood for cracks. See if the plastic cover is cracked. Look under the hood for oil burning off. Didn't you replace the air mix servo on your car? A few of the members, are familiar with the BLOWER motor failing, I will try to direct them here. I know that it becomes intermittant, but your failure is different, it appears that you are running at full blower speed, and you say that its HOT air (with an electrical smell) coming through the vents. Hmmm Is that true? Because, the AC system SHOULD sense the temp you are commanding and mix cool air in to the stream.. Please confirm that you are getting FULL HEAT all the time. In the old days there was a HIGH FAN Relay that would fail in an ON position. kens96 Posted March 14, 2008 Report Share Posted March 14, 2008 I've had the blower motor fail on me. It will create a white smoke that has a burning ceramic smell to it when it goes. The motor and controller are all itergrated into 1 unit. If I recall it was near $400 from the dealer for the part alone. On the Eldorado there is no room to get the motor into the firewall without leaning the engine to the front of the car and dropping the back of the engine cradle a little. the new part will come with a heatshield that was added to later models to keep the failure from happening again. That sounds perfectly consistent with a blower motor not working. When you drive, air comes in thru the vent by the windshield wipers... between the windshield and the hood. Then, when you stop, no air is coming in. I would guess that, based on what you have written, about the smoke and the burning smell, that you need to replace the blower motor. The module is separate from the blower on the 4.9 engine equipped cars.
