Oil Drain Plug

Recommended Posts

I just replaced the Oil Pan Drain Plug on our 1999 SLS.

According to the Dealer the New part number is #11562588.

Much to my suprise their was no magnetic tip.

He indicated it is designed to help prevent leaks.

Last time I had the old plug out I did replace the gasket BUT it still had a one drop Drip.

Just wanted to share this information.

Frank

I bought one recently from Brasington and it did have a magnetic tip. It is much nicer than my old plug as the seal is much improved.

Part number ?

Ahh I got lucky, I went out to the garage and found the receipt, here is the part number for the oil drain plug with the magnet and below is a photo. Oh even cooler than that, here is the replacement oil seal Part Number 3536966, I bought 5 for a total of $0.90 each. You can see the rubber seal bulging out.. :P I am really getting to be a sick man, I even TORQUED it to spec when I put it on!

Oil Drain Plug Part Number 11518377 - $3.28 from Brasington (quite a bargain if you ask me!)

Got to do it right.

Thanks.

The nice part about this forun is someone can ask a stupid question and get a answer without being told to look in the service manual.

It would have taken me at least one hour to find it in the Manual.

To be honest, I found it by accident when I was doing my crossover gaskets, I went to my manual this morning to find it for you, its in the engine section at the end of the rebuilding section where the torque and specs are... The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked...

Thanks Mike! I didn't know they sold just the seal. I need a couple myself. I've replaced the whole plug a couple times in the past. Different part number though I imagine for the 4.9. I wonder if an ordinary O-ring would work? I have a big O-ring kit with every size under the sun.

No its not an ordinary o-ring, there is a metal washer, if I get a chance I will post a photo. If your drain plug is old, it would pay to buy a new one. This plug is very different than my old one, there was no built in seal on my old one, it was separate, and I tried all types but it always leaked. No leaks with this new plug
