I am curious what everyone thinks about this. I feel that when I wash my car it for some unknown reason glides, it feels spry, light, quiet, smooth. I have felt this in other cars also, as far back as my dad's Caddys. Is this just me that feels this way? Mike

Mike, I have noticed this (phenomenon) with every car I have ever owned. As has everyone else I have ever talked to about it. Maybe I can get the government to pop for a couple of million dollars so I can do a study on this.
I was going to respond to your other post (I washed and waxed my car and took it out for about a 25 mile WOT beating. First I want to say that I do believe that 93 octane makes a difference, it is more powerful and snappy) and say it was just because it was washed and waxed. |

That's so funny Ranger, I was thinking that there where two reasons she was swooping down the highway, the 93 octane after having used 87 and the wash and wax... she was slippery... These cars really respond to TLC -------------------- I realize that I am in fact BIASED, but that is why I am an Enthusiast!

I've also noticed if something get's fixed (for instance my navigation wasn't working) it feels like the car rides and drives 100 times better. Then it fades after a few days. Same thing happens when I detail it too. Maybe it's becuase it feels like a whole new car!

Ahh yes, This is deffinetly another performance modification that can be guaged by the "seat of my pants".

Yes, I seem to sit it little bit more "square" in the seat after a car wash.

Had the DTS washed, vacumed and the chrome wheels cleaned today.
While riding around, it made me feel so good I had to stop by Sears and get the Darling Wife a new dishwasher and freezer. At this point 95% think washing causes the car to feel better!

I have often theorized that the more hands-on you are with an automobile or other equipment, the more likely you are to feel invested and pride of ownership. I highly recommend washing/waxing your own Cadillac, and doing as much maintenance and minor repair work as you feel comfortable doing for this reason.

There is some truth to this. the suspension, seals, etc get wet. when things are wet, they are better lubricated. When it rains out, our car runs quieter (suspension etc.), but we can't hear it because the outside is noisy with splashing of the wet roads. When we wash the car, it's wet (which is important), and the outside is dry & quiet, so we hear it over the previous day's conditions. Imporved HP is unexplainable though.

It makes me cringe when I see a dirty, tire worn, brake dust caked caddy, what kind of person treats his caddy like a beater. She said because it looked so nice and clean. 133,000 miles now and no messages, sweat! I do have the same trunk leak as posted, I will find it and fix it.....I will not drill holes in the floor. When there is something wrong (petty things) with the car it does not run as well !! I even cut back on cleaning it because it is dirty with a nagging problem and needs to be fixed to have "the feeling" you describe. Wives do not understand at all. Cars are tools to them. Growing up women compete with cars for attention from 'boys'. My wife owned a 1986 Corvette and treated it like a beater. It was so bad when we sold it I had no interest in keeping it for myself or my sons, it was a wreck so we sold it for $3000....
MOST women don't understand, it gets them from point A shopping location to point B shopping location and they are only concerned with it does not 'work' and usually ignore any signs that there are problems like the wear sensors on the brake pads (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Oh that sqeaking noise, that stopped months ago....but now its GRINDING.... -------------------- I realize that I am in fact BIASED, but that is why I am an Enthusiast!
