There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

No one was hurt.

"Baby," with almost 133K miles under her corset, was nearly a "Trailer Queen." And she purred perfectly.

I won't likely live to own another like her.

Warren

Totally heartbreaking photos :( As a fellow Eldorado owner, those are tough pictures to look at.

But most importantly, I'm glad to hear nobody was hurt. I hope you find another Eldorado that you'll enjoy just as much.

My god, man!

That makes me heartsick like watching a good woman or man die!

Oh man if there was any way I could afford to replace it for you...

darn!!!! Sorry to hear/see that.. Glad no one was hurt.. I know that really sucks. Back in 83, I had a fully loaded 77 Cutlass Salon with T-Tops that had very low miles and was like new and it burned to the ground. Fire dept said a fuel line broke.. To this day that was my all time favorite car.. I just loved that car.. I even bought another one about 3 years ago, but it's just not the same.. Not nearly in as good of shape and has about 100K+ more miles and no T-Tops.. Gonna sell it.. Good luck to you.. Hope you find another one like it..

Good news! Baby is for sale: Contact "Charlie's Auto Towing." Cheap.

My guess is the left rear tire, rim, and tail lense are recoverable.

Regards,

Warren :(

Sheesh Warren. So sorry to hear about your Eldo's unfortunate demise. The pictures really bring it home. Through it all I've noticed that you've been able to maintain some of your "Warren-esk" humour. Keep us posted.

"Having a bad day".

Warren, you are the master of understatement.

Good luck in the search for a replacement, and keep us in the loop.

Warren, sorry to hear about your car. What are the details - I'm assuming there was a fuel leak?

Baby backfired within 20' of the Stop sign; I thought that odd. When I came to a full stop, I saw smoke and a wisp of flame at the left front corner of the hood.

Instantly, I killed the ignition and popped both the hood and trunk. I got the industrial sized fire extinguisher from the trunk and went at the fire under the hood. The fire was gone at the same time the extinguisher breathed its last. WHEW! Then appeared a little flame deep down in the bowels . . . . and a second fire extinguisher was nowhere to be found.

I'm kinda wondering . . . . how might this have been different during my normal 70 mph commute to/from work? All my thoughts are scary.

Regards,

Warren

If it backfired, it probably wasn't the fuel line. Sounds like a full bore diaphram failure in the FPR. Other less likely possibilites are a PCM failure that opened the injectors, or a fire from a non-fuel source such as a shorted battery cable.

If you have comprehensive coverage on your car insurance, that will likely cover Blue Book wholesale. Watch out for an adjuster who tries to value your car in the damaged state, not as it was before the fire; I've seen that just about every time.

If the insurance man tried to pay me for what the car was worth after the fire I'd call / write the comissioner and spit on the insurance man and break things in his office.

That's disgusting and awful.

I wonder what that backfire was.. Did the engine stall do you recall? You say the second fire was down in the bowels, where was that located in the engine compartment?
