The time-serts are a thread repair process for head-bolt threads. They are used with any of the northstar, or 3.6L VVT engines for that matter. Although we don't know a complete correlation, I would say that the newer the engine, the lower miles, the better maintenance, the less likely it is to require head gasket and related thread repair.
