Changed starter, new problem!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, first post but I follow this site religiously and everyone is great and it has helped me a lot during the years. I have a problem I can't figure out, I changed the starter in my 96 Eldorado but now I have everything back together it starts fine but the engine jumps during idle and when it's put in gear it spits and sputters and jumps, can't figure out why it's doing that it has never done it before just happened after I did the starter replacement.  Any ideas will be appreciated  thanks all

Check ignition wire order, make sure the wires are seated on the plugs and not on their sides

Did you replace the intake manifold seals and what was their condition?

What codes are you getting?

OK 1 more question I noticed that I have a wire with a blue connector in the very back left of the engine compartment that I didn't disconnect and can't find anywhere it would connect to any idea if what it is?

Is it back left when you are facing the grille looking at the engine or when you are sitting in the drivers seat.

Vehicle component locations are referenced from the drivers position.

A pic would be nice too :)

I think it is the fuel pump prime connector BUT I cant be certain. If that is it, it's there mainly for the assembly plant people but I have used them before.

It was usually behind the receiver/dryer close to the firewall. I think the older ones with the 4.9 had the connector over the rear valve cover.

Glad you got it running again.

Usually that primer wire is Red. 1 single wire with a plug on the end.

It is used to direct supply voltage to the pump ie prime

Wouldn't the connector plug into the sensor under your thumb in the photo above?

Look at the photo, it connects to the A/C switch under your thumb in the photo... Like KHE said in his post.

It should be displaying "A/C compressor Off"

OK will go out again, I did get that message once when I first got the car about a year ago but not since then, ac has never worked, person I got it from was a mess  and did things to to which he had no idea what he was doing. I have been going through and fixing things one by one, the car is in great shape body wise and only has 140000 on it I got it for 500 cause it didn't run now I got her going good in large part thanks to all of you guys! I have an oil leak and the ac to go now

OK @OldCadTech got it plugged in thank you and thank you @KHE, didn't know that was a sensor. Is there anything I should be concerned with that I haven't got the ac compressor off message for a long time? I know there is no r134a in it because one of the aluminum ac lines were in the trunk when I got it I have put it back on.

The AC system being completely open for who knows how long is not good.

The receiver/dryer needs to be replaced and the system flushed. The orifice tube should be inspected for metal and "debris". At this point I wouldn't trust the AC compressor any farther than I could throw it. I would replace it instead of gambling on it.

My 2 cents worth
