2001  Any affect on  the NorthStar performance and or mpg as opposed to a non smog motor? The one I am interested in is a ETC.

No there should not be.

Emissions are pretty well standardized by that year.

I have had California Northstar and have not noticed any difference at all

Been out of town.....

Anyway....this is what the GM service manual shows for Cali certification...

"If your vehicle is certified to meet California Emission Standards, indicated on the underhood tune-up label, it is designed to operate on fuels that meet California specifications. If such fuels are not available in states adopting California emissions standards, your vehicle will operate satisfactorily on fuels meeting federal specifications, but emission control system performance may be affected."
