Logan
2 versions of Northstars use insert 11155. These are used in a lot of engines using a M11 x 1.5 thread. Very common insert. Likely Timeserts #1 selling insert. 2004 and later Northstars use insert 112030. These are a M11 x 2.0 thread. Same as later Chevrolet small blocks. At one time....the Timesert 2200 universal kit was the kit used for early Northstars. Then Northstar got its own kit...the J-42385-500....then the 2000 kit....then the 2030 kit. At GM....with engine design also comes the need for engine repair procedures....so there were likely some phone calls between Timesert and GM to double check the math. In addition....there is GM Kent Moore tool kits....using Time-Sert tools. Same tools re-boxed as Kent Moore tools. More phone calls... Pic shows a GM Kent Moore J-42385-100 kit (Chevy-Corvette) with clearly marked 'Time-Sert' tools... KHE
2 hours ago, BodybyFisher said: Thanks Logan for more info on Timesert development. I think there exists a belief that GM was involved with the development of the NS timesert because of things the Guru told us. Is it possible that GM worked with Timesert in its development for the NS? Based on things the Guru said, it was my belief that GM was involved. Maybe Kevin and I are got our belief from the Guru? Kevin? I never knew the Timesert was developed back then. The guru used to say the Timesert was developed when the engine was developed but it must have been the length/diameter, etc. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
BodybyFisher
Me either Logan, I am quite surprised Timesert is around so long. Now that Kevin has confirmed my thinking I think the Guru somehow influenced our belief that the timesert was developed in conjunction with GM, and it is possible that they collaborated to develop a solution. The guru was quiet a fan of the Timesert and believed in it fully. Logan, seeing the size of the timesert, not bigsert, do you think the block it weakened by going big, as in bigsert or norms? What do you think could have caused Kevins block to crack at #1?
