new owner of a 93 ELDORADO , where do I start?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I opened my 94 FSM.  There are 16 bolts, 4 described as Intake Manifold bolts, they are M6x1.00 and their length is 136 mm and there are 12 described as Intake Manifold Cover Bolts.   I don't have any info on the cover bolts in the manual, but they also appear to go through the intake manifold seals and through the spacers.

@BodybyFisher@KHE Alright part just came in. Last time i lifted the cover to lok at the plenum, i didnt realize, that ALL 12 TORQUE SCREWS ARE GONE TO THE MANIFOLD COVER. i mean completely missing, all 12 !!! i didnt realize before, because obviouysly being new i easily overlooked it.

After reading a thread here on this site by a 1 @Vince P about removing the FPR, i learned of the 12 torque cover bolts. However upon opening the cover i found that they are missing. I dont know what problems that could lead too, but i know that could lead to my car having a real rough idle. What can i do? i was in motion of switching out the FPR as we speak

@OldCadTech  Aaron is saying those 12 cover bolts were missing, if that is the case, given the writing that says DONT START, he may have had a vacuum leak that upped his idle speed...  what do you think?   Those 12 bolts seal the perimeter of the cover and stop vacuum leaks

Oddly, the manual does not provide the size of those 12 bolts, Ill look again

Yep!

Can the original poster please explain what is going on, you say the bolts are missing but they show in the first photo.

You CAN NOT run the engine with those 12 bolts missing, notice the warning and see the perimeter seal.

I think Aaron is under the idea that the actual gasket that also holds the injectors ( under the cover) is supposed to be bolted down..

just my suspicion...I could be wrong thou..but those intake bolts are there for sure.

@olle is right,

I haven't gotten the chance to get back under the hood. I must've mistaken and thought the cover would be bolted down as well. I will holler at you guys as soon as can get back under

Wassup everybody. I switched out the FPR just a few minutes ago. I posted a picture in the link of my concern. There's some sort of liquid underneath the manifold I'm guessing. You can see it in the picture I'm holding with the flashlight.

Is there a particular method to take care of this before ?

I pressurized the system turning the ignition on a couple times. I don't believe this is from a leak

Very hard to tell but it may be coolant possibly a T-body heater passage leak or maybe fuel. Put some on a rag and smell it. does it smell like coolant or fuel?

@OldCadTech i siphoned out was was in there, and nothing has returned so im assuming theres no leak. it smelled like fuel.

but in replacing the  FPR the car turns over easily now, i can definitely tell the difference. I drove it around the block, it ran well. I tried to run it again yesterday, ran fine but the engine was still a little shaky. i made sure to torque the cover bolts correctly.

Now when i started it again, it idled fine in oark, but the second i put it in reverse or drive the RPMS would fall to 500 and the engine slightly started to sputter.

so its not driving at this time.

Fuel, probably from your leaky FPR before you changed it.

We recently had a member who was seeing smoke, charring and had backfiring, from a bad FPR under the cover.

Check for codes, you have an ISC motor to control idle on that car.   Do you hear clicking when you turn the key off or when its idling?  If the ISC is not functioning, it will stall, see if the plug was pulled off or fell out during the FPR job.

Check the codes and the ISC connector as @BodybyFisher suggested.

If everything is okay, make sure the vacuum hose to the brake booster is not damaged and that the brake booster holds vacuum. Let us know what you find, if you need more info, I will tell you how to check the booster.
