The transmission was making a loud whining noise when cold.  After the car was driven a few miles and it warmed up, the noise went away.  The noise was the transmission oil pump cavitating.  Cavitation was caused by air in the fluid - the way air can get in the fluid is if the scavenger screens are plugged.  I dropped the pan and pulled the side pan to drain the fluid.  The pan was loaded with debris.  I cleaned the pan, then added fluid to bring it to the full cold mark.  I then disconnected the output line from the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler and placed it into a container.  I started the engine and watched the fluid stream until it was the color of new fluid.  That was the end of the whining and a few weeks later, I replaced the trans.  I recall the fluid smelled slightly burned but not bad.

It was a TON of work to swap out the transmission.  I think I have a thread on here somewhere.

I tried to replace the bose cd tape player from another eldorado 2001. It fit and turned on but is locked . I've seen some videos where there is actually a theft lock chip in some of these earlier model stereos from gm that you can access by removing the the bottom of the stereo and then removing the chip and then you can play it like you normally would . Does anyone know about the various ways to unlock these bose cd tape players with the theftlock in it?

So to update my existing car crisis , it has become worse. The dexcool that was leaking out of my car three weeks after I got it back from  carrol custom cadillac was from a cracked block that has been slowly spreading . In addittion the oil leak which did not start til after I got the car has gotten worse . I paid to have the block resealed so I was very surprised when it came back with a brand new oil leak , and now also a cracked block.........let's see , oh also a broken headlight which was hanging out of my car by wires when I made it to the house .I told Tim about these problems and was told to get down on my hands and knees to figure it out myself . When I asked for my receipt I was laughed at . I have been asking for months and still nothing .In addittion the car was there for about 5 and a half months . Every time I asked about it all I got were excuses as to why it wasn't done . I would send it back but I am afraid I would not see it again. I really wish I had taken my car to someone that wasn't going promise the best in the world and send me a damaged car . Now I'm out 4000 dollars . I would stay far away from this service . Please tell anyone who may be looking for Northstar repair .  This has happenned to many people I have talked to and met through this site. You will be out of a bunch of money and get damaged car back in the process.i would say that this was just an honest mistake but it's obvious it is happenning on a regular basis. Now I just want to warn anyone else from using this service.

Here is a close up with arrows.   This is inline with a head bolt hole, there is a coolant passage right there. Tim mentioned that with his new stud design, it would no longer be necessary to in his words "tweak" the studs to align the head.  This statement is off CCC's FB page:

To me that might mean that the studs are not perfectly square to the deck. Gven that Tim does not utilize a jig and freehand drills and taps, it is very possible that this stud was not square to the deck.   According to the CCC web site they use 4 passes of 30, 60, 70 & 74 lb. ft.  This is contrary to the method used by GM which is an initial torque then specific angles.  From all the reading I have done torque angle is more accurate and the preferred method with aluminum in order to avoid over tightening.  Tim has cracked a fellow named Vincent's block (using a northstar performance stud kit), and it is very possible that he cracked Dallas' block from the way he reacted to it when he inspected the leak.  There is a reason why Timesert, Norms and Northstar Performance utilizes drilling jigs, its to guarantee accurate and repeatable results.  Given that Northstar Performance has NOT had any cracked blocks, it seems that the jig is a better method, for that matter I don't recall seeing a timesert that uses a jig crack a block either.   This fact can not be refuted, the only way to refute it would be if Tim were to develop a jig and start drilling accurate holes and tapping accurate threads that were square to the block, to eliminate the jig as a potential problem but he has been adamant about the freehand drilling and tapping method so I don't see a jig ever being developed by CCC.

The antifreeze has to be kept level weekly .still confused as to how I developed an oil leak after the block was sealed .

This engine had head studs installed and a bottom end seal.  The fellow who analyzed the oil, coolant and transmission leaks and temporarily repaired the cracked block sent me a list of problems with the engine and R&R.   Here is a list:

  • Cracked Block

  • Leak at the water pump body o-ring

  • Crossover seal leak

  • Wrong bolts used

  • Disconnected and damaged vacuum hose at the rear of the intake manifold

  • Missing bolts at transmission tail shaft between engine and transmission (see below)

  • Loose headlight assembly that fell out

  • Transmission code P0741 when none was present before

  • Parts missing from the trunk

  • Oil leak from the front seal

  • The transmission is leaking and the transmission is out of a 2001 White DTS, this is an Eldorado, and admittedly this transmission could have been installed before Ben bought the car, but the sudden P0741 is odd. 

  • The harmonic balancer is wobbling badly

That  is all correct. I have been truly blown away the more I have learned that things are not correctly put together on this car after the money that was spent. It's hard when someone promises the best in the world is this what you expect? I mean that in the literal sense ,I was promised the best from the person who claimed to be the best in the entire world ......no exaggeration.
