red-oak, can you post your codes again? I am especially interested in your B and ACM codes

If you need a new BCM you will probably need it to be programmed, but I will leave that to OldCadTech, he is familiar with that.

If you decide you need a BCM, do a search at car-parts.com it is an online searchable database of scrap yards around the country, I find it amazing.

I would NOT replace the BCM yet !!!

The BCM is an easy swap but the BCM PROM ( programmable read only memory) needs to be removed and re-installed in the new BCM. If you buy a used BCM this may not be an issue as the used BCM may have the PROM still intact.

However, IF the replacement BCM does not have a PROM in it, removal of the PROM is sort of a delicate process. The new/rebuilt BCMs would come with a special removal tool but I'm pretty sure that process is no longer available. The tool was a rocker/lever that would lift the PROM out of the holder. You can remove the PROM without it with a rocking motion using your index fingers on either end of the PROM. DO NOT apply excessive down force on the BCM PCB. Installation of the PROM is the most critical as there are about 20 very delicate pins that must NOT be bent. A slight rocking motion when installing the PROM helps, if the PROM will not install easily, STOP, remove the PROM and inspect the pins. Be sure it is fully seated.

I found the schematic for the FDC - It is circuit 751 and it is part of the G100 ground but it also branches off so you need to look in the ground distribution section of the SM.

I wouldn't install a BCM until you have pulled the FDC and inspected the connections there first. even if they are good it doesn't mean the BCM is faulty, it means you are not done with your diagnosis.

Replacing parts until the problem is fixed or you run out of money is not the proper way to diagnose an electronic component problem.

It has been a long time but I seem to remember that the fuel data center might need to be replaced if it does not display. You should be able to pick one up at a junkyard for not a lot of money.

That is very true, the connectors would become loose and the current draw would overheat them.

The closest 93 in a junkyard for me that I can find is 3 hours away I still would like to get a new one if available? I have a couple of thing on this morning but I will use my manual and look in to what it takes to pull the FDC.

The closest junk yard is at your fingertips, car-parts.com. There will be other years that work.

To-day I removed the trim pieces and took out the FDC looks clean and the connections look good . But there is a sticker on the top of it saying it has been remanufactured for delco so not the original is there any other check that can be done to it I figure if it was a ground problem the letter c would not be glowing, is this correct. I think I have found three 1993's close by going to check them out in the net couple of days

First off sorry for jumping ahead with trying to find a fix. Things are not easy at the moment a second uncle passed away as it was anticipated being 94 this one is my fave as he was a pilot in WWII flew a bomber, and in the last year that has hunted him. So an up date I have left the dash apart and tested the continuity of the wires from the plug on the FDC and the BCM. each wire had continuity. Then getting the message of my uncle getting worse I sent the BCM to be rebuilt in hope to use the car if needed I hope you guy understand. Waiting on the return for the BCM at the moment thanks for putting up with me.

It is interesting that you mention that about your Uncle being haunted by his ww2 experience. It happened to my dad also, he never discussed the war but toward the end he seemed to re-live it. The doctor explained it as suppressed memories that resurface.

Where did you send the BCM, post their info including web page if you have it. Hopefully they will give you the details as to what if anything was wrong

Thanks every one for your advice and patients it makes me feel very welcome here on the board. I took the BCM to our local auto supplier they send them to Toronto I attached a note to it explaining my situation and asked them to let me know if they find a problem so I hope they will. Thanks dbc 2065 for your offer any extra parts are good but it is a BCM I think I need but I will send you a message and talk bout shipping.

I went to the auto parts place to check on my BCM. I was told that the guy that checked it out says there was nothing wrong with it and is sending it back

This chart should be in your service manual.

I couldn't find Chart C-1a.

I'm still of the opinion it is a ground problem but you need to follow the procedure in chart c-1a.

The "C" is a failure indicator - it could be a panel problem but I've had this same condition in the past and it was mostly ground problems a couple of panel failures but they were usually burnt wires at the connector. Remove the grounds and inspect the connections for corrosion, broken wires or partially broken wires. The other grounds behind the drivers side kick panel need to be checked and the one you tightened before needs to be checked again.

Pay particular attention to #3 ------ that includes ground circuits.....

Just to clarify a clock signal is NOT a time of day type clock signal it is more of a timer to calculate fuel flow rates, distance calculations etc..

Thanks I took the grounds off in the engine compartment and cleaned each terminal with sand paper after I placed the BCM back in but have left the dash apart to try to do more investigation. I will recheck and clean each ground. I do have a question if I take a jumper from battery ground and place it in the grounds as there seams to be two black wires with a white strip on the plug going into the FDC will that eliminate a bad ground problem I have not done this yet just asking

I also forgot to ask the struts were replaced with out the sensors can I pull the bulb in the dash that stays lite saying sss service

Yes, you can do that at the connector terminal, just make sure it is a ground wire. Check it with a DMM ( digital multi-meter ) NOT a test light to 12V power source.

If you have a digital IPC I don't think it is a regular bulb that you can remove, but I'm not 100% sure. You would have to pull the IPC and look at the back to be certain.

What kind of struts? You may be able fool the system by soldering in resistors of the appropriate rating.

No bulb to remove. You can hit reset after each startup to get rid of the message.

BBF I think you are referring to a different IPC. 93 was the long skinny IPC...

Some had 194 bulbs for tell-tale bulbs but I can't remember what year they discontinued that, I'm thinking the 92 Eldo style dash and the 94 Deville. I think you are right about the resistor but it went into the relay circuit I thought not at the strut, could be wrong about that, I have slept since then.....
