Bruce Nunnally
I hope to do a full write-up soon. It is a fun car, lots of interesting features. I love my Wife's ATS 2L Turbo; add power, performance modes, and tuning, and the ATS-V seems close to ideal. BodybyFisher
Wow Congratulations Bruce! I am surprised you traded the XLR, I don't think I read any impressions on it, you didn't have it that long did you? Bruce Nunnally
I enjoyed the XLR very much. The STS-V was a great car, but as a daily driver was ready for replacement. However I discovered over time that I didn't enjoy having 2 cars and one garage space. Parking my daily driver outside the garage was a pain many mornings due to needing to clear the windows. When I wanted to get the XLR out I'd have to dance the cars around. The XLR was in very good condition, Crest had fixed the EBCM issue, and with my imported gadget I fixed the occasional repeat by calibrating the brake pedal. My plan was to purchase a CTS VSport Premium and wait for the ATS-V to depreciate. The 2014 CTS VSports are at a good price point -- they started at $72 (more than an ATS-V) but are in the mid-$40s now used. By comparison, the CTS VSport is larger than the ATS-V, a bit heavier, and makes 420/430 hp/torque vs 464/445 hp/torque. The VSport and the ATS-V both have 8 speed auto available, although different ones. I planned to trade the STS-V on the VSport and keep the XLR. To validate my plan I went over to test drive the VSport and the ATS-V back to back to understand the differences between the two. The CTS VSport has plenty of power but is tuned to be somewhat reserved compared to the ATS-V. The ATS-V is much more responsive, "let's go now". A new Vsport and a new ATS-V cost about the same (new), but a 14 VSport was $20K less than a 16 ATS-V. There are no used ATS-Vs for now. Then I looked at many permutations which boiled down to 3 choices: wait 1-2 years and get an ATS-V, trade my STS-V for a Vsport & wait a couple of years to trade on an ATS-V, or trade my STS-V AND my XLR and get the ATS-V now. After some back and forth, the Dealer offered me what I asked for the STS-V and XLR trade-in values, then a bit more to cover a dealer add-on. I wanted to buy from Crest since they have been a good friend for test drive reviews, and a forum sponsor, and I know Mike & Darin over there, so I am glad that worked out. They had several ATS-Vs in stock, but wanted to trade for one of the ones in inventory (as opposed to waiting to order one). The one I bought was the one closest to my spec above, but has a couple of options I didn't need. Even down to the last detail the deal was not complete until the last minute, but then it all came together - partially I think because we both wanted me to buy from Crest. Bruce Nunnally
Thanks. This morning I was surprised with the rush after a break in traffic allowed a quick burst of acceleration. The ATS-V is a lot of fun. The video from the pdr looks great on playback. i will post samples soon. Bruce Nunnally
Still some trim work to do but simple things, like now the garage door opens quietly, the ATS-V can control it with the homelink in the car, etc. Oh the other feature for the new openers is battery back-up -- so if the power is out it can still open the door.
