Well I am very happy today. I found a perfect set or energy absorbers for the front bumper.

They were cake to install and my bumper lines up perfect now. I replaced the well trims too as they were broken. There was no other damage.

By the looks of things the accident that pushed in the absorbers happened awhile back.

the more The list dwindles the more I love my Deville. Settling in nicely

It looks like you are down to a short to-do list.

When you break her out for Spring, how about a photo or two?

Update 1/23/16.

Ups and Downs/

I finally installed the rain sensor for the wipers. Was meticulous but took seconds to install.

Wipers work wonderful now.

I still have to change the harness for the left front abs.

I have put 1100 miles on it so far.

The downs,

Low coolant light came on yesterday, took .5 gallon. Gave me a sinking feeling. I have not seen or smelled anything leakwise. I wish I did. I pray it is either nothing to worry about or at least a external leak. The car does not sit still long enough to misfire if it is going into a cylinder.

AC condenser is bad. Like I said earlier Whoever did the radiator really botched things in there.

It has not used any oil for the 1100 miles. Which is good.

If you don't see a leak but coolant goes away in volume while you are running, that means that it has a pressure leak. If the temp gauge doesn't move, I wouldn't worry until I looked over the system.

Radiator tanks are notorious for sealing when the car is parked but leaking when the system is under full pressure. Your first notice will be a little plume of steam from the front of the car while stopped at a light. If you had a botched radiator job, I wouldn't rule out the radiator. Or the radiator hoses, on both ends. Look for leaks around the thermostat housing and the water pump cover, and even the crossover.

The hoses to the surge tank are another source of issues. Techs, inexperienced at such things or under pressure, can break off the hose connections, then force the hose onto the nubs and clamp them there; these will leak and can be hard to find. The only cure is a new surge tank.

This is a long thread and I don't recall everything here, but if you haven't checked the heater hoses behind the engine, now is a good time.

Those sure look to be the ones. Same ones I put on my 96, and will work on my 97

Confirm that they are the correct part numbers, and Ill send them to you, with the other stuff. I thought you had a 99, I am sure 97 is the same as 96.

Hows the new engine, I don't think I have seen much about the job and how its running since the install, is it covered in a different thread since you got it fixed?. I am still not comfortable with navigating the board due to my long hiatus and I access the board a lot with a smart phone, so I am a bit lost and miss a lot of what is going on. It will take time for me to get comfortable. How is it running?

The part numbers match perfect.

It is a 1997.

It runs beautiful. I have put 2k on it and it has used no oil at all. I am extremely grateful for that.

ECT runs at 196 all the time. Very minor fluctuation of no more the 4*.

The car on the other hand has its issues. I am not surprised. I am working them out little by little.

Now my FSMs cover both of my caddys lol

Update. 3/9/16

So spring is starting to show and I will be spending some good time detailing my new boat.

I must say that under all of the crap that has been wrong with this car it is actually a beautiful car. It really reminds me of a Limousine.

So far since the last update

I have replaced both mufflers, both fell to pieces, (someone had welded on dollar store mufflers)

I put both pigtails on for the issue with the left front Wheel speed. I think it is the hub assembly itself because I still have the same problem.

I had to repair the rear vanity mirrors. I hope to find a new set someday. They were badly broken.

I am running rotella 10w30 now. This car has a huge benefit over the 01 eldo I replaced it with. I have had to add no oil at all between changes. I swear I was adding oil too frequently on the eldo.

Over the next few weeks here is what I will be doing.

Fuel pump (stupid gauge)

brakes all around

LF hub assembly

front swaybar links

rear knuckle bushings

and hopefully finally Alignment.

Once I wax and buff it I will post some good pictures.

The car looks and is nothing like it was when I bought it. It went from ready for the junkyard to a fine auto.

If I tried to save all of these fine autos I would be in some debt

To make you fell a little better, we all have tales if we have reconditioned an old car. I bought a 1969 Chevrolet 427 station wagon in 1974 (to replace a 1973 454 station wagon that got 9 mpg) to tow a trailer from Austin to Seattle. There were many, many things to repair, and it took a year. To start:

  • It had a dead hole that turned out to be a lifter with a hole in the bottom. New cam and lifters.
  • The carburetor, a Rochester quadrajet from a 396 that someone had replaced the original three Holley two-barrel setup with, had peanut butter sludge through the heat riser passages and a stuck secondary. I replaced the intake manifold and carburetor with a Holley four barrel setup.
  • Someone had put a Sears Muzzler exhaust on it, an economy single exhaust sold at Sears Auto Maintenance shops found in parking lots near big Sears stores. These were great on old Ford Falcons and such to keep them one step away from the junkyard, but whenever the secondaries on my new Holley four-barrel opened, the engine blew the muffler off the downpipe, and I had to pull over and pound it back into place. I replaced the exhaust system with a 3-inch-to-resonator-to-2.5-inch system with a second resonator near the rear. Car became a huge runner.
  • Etc. Etc. Etc.

I drove that car for seven years, until I couldn't get parts for it anymore.

So

Fuel pump module is changed. I could not take the crazy gauge anymore. The little feelers on the arm were not making enough contact with the plate to give accurate readings.

Been right on since.

Have to figure out the vent issue though because it gives me a hard time when fueling. It keeps kicking off the pump. Drives me insane

Hub assembly was the problem with the abs. I replaced both pigtails also though.

Been no problem since.

Next task is rear knuckle bushings, pads, rotors, calipers, and cables(thanks to bodybyfisher :hatsoff: )

Once the weather here in NY improves I plan to do some side by side of both of my Caddys. Both need good wash though

In Michigan, the spring has been TERRIBLE so far - more snow in April than in December. A week ago, we received 6-8 inches of snow. The weather guessers are predicting normal/average temperatures starting mid next week so maybe late next week, normal weather will reach New York.

Update 5/26/16

Finally got my ac working.

I replaced the condensor due to the botch job from whoever replaced the radiator.

the seals were missing between the lines and the compressor. (not too easy to figure out and fix)

AC now blows ice cold like it should.

Added completely oem front foglamp option.

Repaired the steering column

I think the only thing I have not touched on this poor car is the transmission.

The engine has been fine.

I changed the coolant when I did the condensor.

Wipers work just wonderful. I love them

I will share some pics this weekend
