Just like heads up display windshields, rain sense windshields are the same as all othr windshields, but are hand selected during manufacture for having a better/clearer lamination! And less imperfctions. Most of the time, any standard windshield will meet the same specifications as a rainsnse/heads up windshild - but without costing 2-3x the price.

It's more that they are trying to keep the few really poor windshields from being installed wih rainsense or heads up display causing malfunctions.

I had HUD in my oldsmobile cutlass supreme and I loved it. Some had a slight double reflection but mine was perfect. I cant believe that olds had the option in the 90s but cadillac did not. My cutlass was a 1994. That was one of the coolest features of that car

In defense of the dealers, the tech training and refresh courses don't cover cars that are long out-of-warranty. If a tech doesn't have any experience with models that have the same features as yours, they are dependent on the FSM, and since they are paid by flat-rate hours, their time with the FSM is scant unless you have somebody who isn't busy.

Dealer tech is a tough job. Old cars can be a real headache for them.

Here is a picture from the outside of the windshield. It is not the best due to the glare from the fluorescent light.

Here is the inside - that fluorescent light was a PITA for this one also.

I'd measure the side to side location from the outside of the car where you can easily see the mirror mounting port and the vertical distance from inside the car and lay tape on the outside of the windshield to mark the location.

Thank you very much. I looked for that tray from the FSM also and came up empty. The tray is used when reusing a used module.

Hopefully it comes in soon and I can park the car indoors to warm it enough to mount it

So noticing some small issues as I drive it daily,

The traction randomly engages, sometimes when I first start the car, sometimes on turns, It is completely random.

It throws a TCS1225 after so many triggers and disables it til the next key cycle.

Also noted left rear wheel keeps getting warmer than I like.

I took apart the brakes on that corner and although it needs pads, rotors, and parking brake cables, I dont see any obvious reason for it to hang up(as long as the parking brake is not used)

I guess I will have to take it back apart tomorrow.

Also I am pretty certain the air ride is not working. The compressor comes on and what not but I dont think air is getting to the shocks. Hopefully I can check that out tomorrow too. I do have a spare compressor kicking around worst case scenario, With my experience the exhaust valves corrode shut and are not repairable.

C1225 Left Front Excessive Wheel Speed Variation

It looks like the left front may need balancing, or is low on air.

I would check the air ride system for leaks before I changed the compressor.

It refers to the pigtail that goes from the EBTCM to the wheel hub. Should come with pin kit for EBTCM also. Some come with a splice kit to replace part of the harness.

C1225 Left Front Excessive Wheel Speed Variation

It looks like the left front may need balancing, or is low on air.

I would check the air ride system for leaks before I changed the compressor.

The problem occurs even sitting still, even just starting the car triggers it. It must be a connection issue.

As for the air ride it probably leaks at the shocks(most do) but I am not getting air to the shocks. I am going to check out the compressor tomorrow.

Thanks

If the car throws the C1225 when you start it, particularly if you haven't started moving, then it's an electrical problem. Here's what the 1997 FSM has to say.

On page 5E2-11, there is a paragraph on interference from the plug wires. They advise

  • Watch out for routing of the wheel speed sensor wires near the plug wires.
  • Check for add-on accessories that can modify the layout, damage wiring, etc.
  • Check the plug wire resistance. If any are over 30,000 Ohms, replace all the plug wires.

That last was interesting, and it could explain setting C1225 when the engine starts. The ignition on a Northstar is powerful enough to bridge a small gap inside a plug wire with no discernible performance issue or miss - and anything near that wire will pick up a pulse every time that plug fires, but an ohmmeter will, of course, see a plug wire with any break as an open circuit. If the DTC sets before the car has begun to move, this is something to look at.

Pages 5E-62 through 5E-64 are the pages on DTC C1225. The opening notes on the first things to check are the usual, checking the wiring and connectors before you start working with the details. They suggest spraying salt water to check for water intrusion, and an electromagnetic interference test (I don't know how that is done and did not look it up, but the bad plug wire warning brings some ideas to mind).

Things are really pretty simple here, since the wheel speed sensors connect only to the EBTCM. Since only one wheel is acting up, the EBTCM is almost certainly good, leaving you with two wires, the connectors on both ends, and the wheel speed sensor itself. Except for interference from a bad plug wire. The LF wheel speed sensor wires are LT BLU (LF wheel speed sensor connector B to EBTCM connector 31) and YEL (A to 15).

The troubleshooting chart lists these things to check:

  • Go over the wheel speed sensor wiring and connectors, and the wheel speed sensor itself.
  • The wheel speed sensor resistance should be between 850 Ohms and 1350 Ohms.
  • Put your meter on AC voltage and spin the wheel. The wheel speed sensor should generate at least 0.1 Volts.
  • With the EBTCM and the wheel speed sensor disconnected, the wiring harness should show an open circuit for both wires; e.g. check for shorts and open circuits in the wiring between the EBTCM and the wheel speed sensor.

I would start with the easy stuff: the wheel speed sensor and its connector. If you can run the car in the dark, taking the beauty cover off and looking for bright spots on the blue corona around all of the plug wires may be easier than taking off the plug wires to measure their resistance.

Don't put the meter on the wheel speed sensor wires with the EBTCM connector on, unless you have a meter that is safe for sensitive electronics. Also, the EBTCM connections with the wheel speed sensors are static sensitive.

Thank you. I do believe the pigtail may be not routed properly. It did not occur til I had the engine replaced. Better to be the LF as it is the shortest pigtail lol

Very cool, you recognized that it coincided with the engine swap! Should be easy to solve.

Having just swapped an engine myself I can say that at some point it became clear to me that I basically had to R&R and disturb everything to accomplish the task. It requires so much attention to details, but its an incredible way to restore and rebuilt the powertrain and get a handle on oil, coolant and tranny leaks, routing, broken and worn out parts and missing or damaged retainers, loose and missing bolts etc. I was stunned that the first time I turned turned the key that I had no P codes on first start up, with the exception of me leaving the cam sensor connector off, but the engine ran anyway. The knowledge and insight I gained doing the job was overwhelming, it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and can't wait to do it again under optimal circumstances. I need to write it up now that the holidays are over.

These cars are amazing

That they are. That is what keeps me owning them.

I found today the left rear caliper is shot. Frozen solid. It will hang up after releasing the pedal. The piston will not turn.

I replaced the hoses for the air compressor(dry rotted)

I ran a drill bit through the holes where the hoses connect.

when I manipulate the level sensor to inflate it seems to,

when I manipulate to lower the solenoid clicks but no air came out.

I am going to try it with the weight of the car rather than one side being jacked up and see what happens. It is likely the exhaust valve is corroded internally like usual. I keep a spare compressor for this problem lol

I am going to install new Monroe air shocks and air lines on my friends 98 Eldorado next week, I previously removed the fuse to stop the compressor from running on start up. I will pick up a unit at the scrap yard if it does not inflate.

Let me ask a question, if I lengthen the rod on the rear level sensors one turn, would that translate into raising the rear slightly?, I think it will, just bouncing the question off you

Yes it will. There is no crank though,

If you have just air ride it will be easy. Just adjust the level sensor or figure out a way to lengthen the rod a little.

On RSS it is more difficult as both sides have to be the same.

NOTE. A little bit of adjustment goes a long way.

The rods are threaded, my impression was that they were adjustable.

They had a few types.

IIRC the ones that had the release clip for the socket were threaded,

The snap in regular socket ones were pressed together. I have both types.

So I swapped out the caliper today. Will have to wait til spring to get parking brake cables so that will work.

Air ride is working properly. Guess cleaning the ports and replacing the hose did the trick. I will say that if the ports are kept clean and the hose in good shape it will continue to work. I also spray some wd40 into the ports to prevent rust ad corrosion.

There is a trademark cadillac feature that I really cannot do without. When you look down the long hood and see the nice gold wreath from the driver seat that means alot to me. My Eldorado did not have the ornament, nor do the newer Caddys. I love the feature. The just does not do it all for me.

My 97 Deville has the gold wreath package. The 97 Seville has the chrome/silver package.

What is wrong with the parking brake cables? Do you need new cables because the are corroded? I bought new brake cables for my 96 Deville if they fit your 97 they are yours.

The cases are swollen and the cables are tight. Its kind of funny because I had just put new cables i my 96 shortly before I retired it. I used it regularly after that.

The fronts are the same and it looks like the rears are the same. I know the calipers never changed. The calipers were a great design (if used regularly)
