My '96's 3000mi road trip

winterset

Recommended Posts

I am back from my North NJ - Miami road trip in my Deville, and all went great.

Started straight down to Vero beach to visit my sister, then to Hollywood/ Miami to visit parents.

I get 1000 mpq for my 10w30, and at 70 mph i got 25mpg for premium gasoline. I kept my dic on the temp. Mostly stayed at 196 at highway speeds, and the highest it went was 222 when i was stuck in traffic for a few minutes when the dash read outside read 90.

Once i started keeping up with traffic, and cruising over the posted 70, fuel dropped to 21.6 mpg.

The night before i left, i put new front pads on, and greased the front end, along with cleaning, and regreasing the front brake guide pins. The pads were $20 from autozone, and my only complaint was they dirtied up my nice chrome wheels after 500 miles.

Ride is as smooth as i remember, and the wheel was straight, the car is quiet over bumps, and acceleration is fantastic. I made sure to keep rpm's under 2500. On my return trip home, when i was close to home, i tried a little wot in 3rd a few times, and i saw much more than expected soot blow out.

Seems performing a wot at night with headlights behind me, let me see it from my side mirrors.

I also used 3 bottles of techron. I filled up with premium, and i got Top Tier premium at a Virginia Exxon for $2.13 thanks to gas buddy.

Temps sound normal. The car apparently needed a road trip.

Too bad you didn't stop in Edgewater, FL, would have swapped a few stories! Just took a short road trip myself...Jacksonville and back, 2hrs each way. The '08 DTS ran like a top as always.

5W-30 Dexos for that year, 25.5 mpg @ 75 people passing me often on 95!

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

With regard to fuel economy , I put Denso Twin Tip plugs in my 96 Eldorado and noticed an immediate 1 to 2 MPG increase in mileage. I followed this up by installing them in a 13 Equinox and saw the same effect. Don't know if other people run Denso TT plugs, or heard of them. Must say though that I am quite impressed. Something to consider.

Welcome to Caddyinfo Greg!

Ok, Greg is going to make me reveal something i kept from you all.

Here is some background:

I joined caddyinfo in 2004. I think i had an account prior to that, lost it, and just created another.

Here is the secret:

When i changed my spark plugs in 2001 or 2002, i replaced them with Bosch or Champion dual tip platinums. They have been in there ever since, and i didn't have any problems with them. I believe my plugs, wires, and brake pads are the only non oem parts in the car. Dont judge me :)

I believe that OEM quality can be had from multiple vendors in some cases. Pulgs, I m leery of, but will take another look at Denso or Bosch. It's possible that one or both of them produce the plugs to GM specs for AC/Delco, although I believe that AC/Delco does produce their own spark plugs.

As examples, I would trust bearings/hubs from Timken, shocks/struts from Monroe, etc. so long as they are an exact match for the car and not an economy replacement part.

Howdy Mike,

I haven't had much time for the forum lately.. My Darling Wife has had multiple strokes and I take care of her..

I traded the '06 DTS Performance with over 150,000 miles on it for a 2011 DTS Platinum with just over 20k miles on it in June of 2014..
