Good bye to Cadillac for the time being....

Hello all, I just wanted to swing by and let you all know I was able to trade my 1997 Deville in for a new car over the weekend of 10/17/2015. I traded her in for a steep down grade, a 2015 Nissan Versa Note. I will miss the power of the Northstar V-8 but this little Versa will get me to my job of about 80 miles a day on way less fuel. I will one day own another Cadillac, but now is the time to save money. :) See you all soon! And best of luck to you all in the big V-8 sector.

Sorry to see you move to a less capable ride.

When gas prices spiked, I felt the pressure to trade my Eldorado, and I occasionally get jabs about the gas mileage on my current daily driver, a CTS-V. But I opened Excel and figured the monthly cost of each alternative, keeping the Eldorado, driving an econobox, or driving a family grocery-getter/commuter. BTW, I get 17.2 mpg overall with my CTS-V, which is better than a lot of sport-utes you see out there!

I found that if it means changing cars when you don't plan to change cars, keeping your car is a no-brainer. Trading for an econobox would take over ten years to break even, and the enconobox won't do heavy-duty commuting that long. And, you're driving a Cadillac, not an econobox.

If you are at a planned change of cars, then you do have a decision to make. It comes down to how much a month you would pay to drive a Cadillac versus other cars on the menu. That's a personal decision, and I don't propose to suggest what others' decisions would be when I'm not looking at that myself.

This is a Cadillac enthusiast site, so you are as welcome as you ever were.
